Chat trust factor system

We’re all familiar with the endorsement level. Do well or act nice (or play mercy) and you get endorsed. Get endorsed enough and your level rises.

We should have a similar system for chat & voice, starting with a baseline level. If people find your communication nice, they can endorse your chat trust factor. Otherwise they can downgrade it by reporting you for chat offences.

The real change is that being reported for chat offences does not lead to account penalties unless extreme (see footer)

The system should by default separate the chat for different endorsement levels.

Higher endorsement levels will have to opt-in to be able to communicate with lower endorsement levels.

There should also be an option to automatically opt-in to lower endorsement levels if you do not care about toxicity and would rather speak to people anyway

Additionally, the game should attempt to “cancel” messages that seem toxic. For instance, when someone types a toxic message in chat, it should show that the message was sent to the client, but not actually broadcast it to the rest of the players. This way people can “vent” while not actually risking their account.

The purpose of these suggestions is to reduce the amount of suspensions for chat-related offences and the associated frustrations that come with it. The goal is to focus on detection and prevention rather than letting people walk into a trap and lose their account.

Suspensions for chat offences should be reserved for extreme cases, such as promotion of terrorism or threats of real-life violence.

Communication should be encouraged in a team based game. :+1:

Only way people would communicate more in VC would be with more severe penalties for the terminally toxic who use slurs every game and get away with it. It’s clear the AI system or whatever it is, is not working. If it was, that sort of garbage would be getting either instabanned or banned not long after the reports. I’ve reported the most disgusting types of gutter trash and I still see them playing.

Penalties aren’t severe enough for those types unfortunately.

I made a thread proposing the the same system no more need to ban players from the game .

Yup then they get endorsement level 1 punishment and nobody else can hear them. All the non toxic players would be endorsement level 2+

This is a horrible idea.

Frankly, people should just learn to control themselves if they don’t want to face account penalties for what they say. We don’t need ‘trust levels’ in-game where you can occasionally say some toxic stuff, but because you’ve got a high ‘trust level’ you’re fine and won’t cop a ban. No.

Look, I get it; the game can be frustrating at times. I’ve vented more than a few times because of stupid plays done by my own team. Tank rushes off to try to spawn camp and leaves the backline exposed to flankers or dies and starts complaining about heals? You can bet every dollar you have that I am venting at my monitor about how stupid that tank is, etc. But is anyone else on my team hearing that? No. Because I use push to talk and I’m not holding down the button when I vent.

If you decide to be toxic in-game, you have to own that when Blizzard knocks on your door with the penalty bat. Because you control the buttons you press, no one else. It’s your fault for typing the toxic message, so you cop the penalty, as you deserve.

This is a rubbish idea.

If Blizzard could even detect such a thing it’s much better to just punish for a toxic message, is it not?

Bar is way way to low and automated system is the problem, it was designed as report abusive chat feature note the word ABUSIVE saying EZ at the end of the game is not abusive and never deserves a ban.

Bans are not automated.

Blizzard has an entire department called the Risk Department, that is responsible for issuing account bans. The warning system is automated. But if you cop a ban because of something you said? That was handed out by a human.

And yes, EZ is toxic. If you’re saying that at the end of a game, you deserve a ban.

I disagree i believe people now and gen Z is the most hypersensitive generation in human history and people get offended by everything these days., and now its leeching into computer games.

People just need to grow a thicker skin and stop getting so easily offended by everything

Before they went crazy on the bans communication was way more fun and you could actually have banter without the fear of getting banned.

But supporting this abused , draconian system its down to you why people wont join voice anymore

Thicker skin is needed

It doesn’t matter if you disagree. As far as Blizzard is concerned, it’s toxic, and that’s why people get banned for saying it.

You’re playing their game, so you’re expected to follow their rules. Don’t want to do that? Find another game to play.

It was called report Abusive chat in no world is saying EZ remotely abusive, the feature is now called report inappropriate communication which basically means pretty much anything. People are just spam reporting anything anyone types when they lose which is abuse of the report system happening on an industrial scale which is why so many accounts are being banned and you see so many complains about it here.

Again, as far as Blizzard is concerned, saying EZ is toxic.

You’re essentially rubbing your opponents faces in their loss. It’s unsportsmanlike; it’s disrespectful and, frankly, immature and toxic behavior.

Somehow I get the feeling that you’ve copped multiple bans for language. And if your conduct here is anything to go by, I’d say those bans were well deserved.

I don’t like your conduct either extremely poor from what i have seen.

And yet I’ve never once been banned for language in Overwatch because I control myself and don’t say or do anything that could be considered reportable.

You get what you deserve. Want to act toxic? That’s your choice, but you’re the only one to blame when Blizzard comes knocking on your door with the penalty bat.

Toxic on this game is subjective because its based on someone’s feelings and not if the person is truly being toxic.

The only people who hand out bans are Blizzard themselves. They decide what’s toxic. In theory, you could say, “It’s a wonderful day; have fun, everyone!” and I could report that for toxicity. Is it toxic? Absolutely not. But who’s the artbiter who decides that? Not me. All I can do is forward that up the chain, and then Blizzard makes the call and they have guidelines set in place which determine if something is toxic or not.

I remember you in one of my games and you went AFK as a tank because you was getting flamed for being bad by the rest of the team, if it was you then your guilty of gameplay sabotage which is worse than subjective toxicity!

Oh, so we’re just making up lies now, are we?

I haven’t tanked in years. I exclusively heal and DPS at this point. And I have never, ever, thrown a game, even when I did tank.
