I just received a chat ban warning regarding multiple recent reports against my account.
I never use foul language or bully anyone, the worst things I say in chat are “wtf” or “GROUP UP” with the majority of my chat being “hanzo, maybe switch?” or “don’t worry guys, we got this.”
Should I be worried that actions will be taken against my account? I’ve put a lot of money into this game over the years and I don’t want to lose my account. For now I’m just not going to use chat at all, but that sucks.
Thanks for any feedback, sorry if this question has been asked a lot, I couldn’t find a relevant post in the forums during my cursory search.
The more you play, the more likely you are to get banned by those looking to grief you with false reports. Disabling chat should help your chances, especially by making you less of a target, but people have still claimed to be banned for abusive chat with chat disabled. Griefers choose abusive chat or inappropriate name because it reliably gets results.

also: having chat off leaves you no defence against false reporters and those inciting toxicity. if you can at least see the attacks, you can prep your account for appeal viz. flagging chat logs, screenshots and/or exporting the replay codes. even livestreaming. a constant defence against the broken, weaponized in-game systems.

Basically yea. Blizzard is actively encouraging players to not use chat because of how ban-happy the system is. Its a common complaint, but I doubt they’ll ever change the system.
The thing is. you are not supposed to COMMUNICATE in this game, period.
Moderation in this game is all automated and nobody is going to look at what you said or did.
I have like 2k ranked hours in the last few years, all in voice. never actioned or warned. Ignore and keep playing.
Last night I was playing Ashe and nailed a few key elims via head shots. Someone on the other team wrote “Ashe I hope you die in a dumpster fire.” Yeah, that one got reported.
I’ve also been reporting the usual toxic texts that normally result in a “Thank you” note afterwards:
“EZ”
“Diff”
Anything sexist
Anything racist
Any form of bullying
Any questionable names fitting the above list
