What kinds of characters haven’t been tried yet in Overwatch? Here’s three I thought of as an example:
1.) Melee Damage hero. Like Genji’s ult, but all the time.
2.) Sniper tank. This would most likely just be a tank with a railgun that probably can’t oneshot outside of an ult.
3.) Combat heavy support. I don’t mean Zenyatta who does high damage, but has poor escape tools to balance. I mean a support who’s a fantastic fighter with great mobility or defense, but heals worse as a trade off. Either due to low healing or clunky healing.
Clunky like LifeWeaver’s healing where you have to switch into it AND watch your charge meter and ammo count. With healing like that, I wouldn’t even mind it if the combat support also had good defense.
These are three characters that I feel Overwatch hasn’t done yet, so I think it’d be neat to try it them out. I’ll even throw in a fourth because I’m bored: A tank that can heal their team. Like Soldier 76’s healing.
Some people say “wouldn’t heal stacking be an issue”, but really I don’t see why it would be. We have snipers that can just kill through healing, displacement abilities to separate the tank to stop their healing, and things like Discord and Anti-nade to kill through healing. I think a tank that can heal their own team could work well enough.
I’m going to say “yes”, but its player dependent. Most characters can’t play Lucio to the level where he’d be that combat support. Baptiste is also close, but not quite there. Same for Moira except her damage being not great. So, we’re in the neighborhood of what I mean, but there’s a few things holding them back.
Also, Lucio’s healing isn’t clunky at all. especially if you’re near a wall because you can wallride for speed and heal your team.
If Soldier had more healing, he’d be a perfect example of what I mean.
I still still want a shotgun support with healing turrets. I dunno why that just sounds fun.
give me a shotgun, and sym turrets that heal instead of do dmg.
Sigma is what Blizzars came up with trying to make a sniper tank.
You may get another but it will be in a similar vein. He has a long range deployable shield, he attacks from range. He can reposition to high ground. Tank stuff.
But no tank has longer than mid range and is unlikely to change.
I think an Omnic like Ramatra that is a support who can raise dead Omnics from the ground like Zombies and they act like shamblers where they slowly walk to the target. Once they reach the target the latch on to the legs pinning them to the ground and then they start to explode if they are not killed by either that player or other players.
I think if this support also has Omnic drones that could “bubble” targets preventing damage. This heros support toolkit is about slowing and distracting the enemy by forcing them to shoot at teammates feet as well as preventing burst damage on teammates. I think this could help with the 1 shot meta.
Well it depends what you consider as “healing tank”. Roadhog can heal himself and JQ, although being a sloppy tank can actually give extra HP to their team (if you’re close enough).
I have had a lot of Zenyattta play of the gameswith 11k+ but only when there is no sombra or tracer as flankers in the enemy team . (Genji is terrible flanker, I have killed him many times as zen , foiled his ‘nano’ balde with my ult)
Animal support, I could easily see a kind of robo-dog for example that fetches healthpacks or some stuff like that. Either as the actual hero, or as companion animal of the hero.
Flamethrower. So it’s Mei but instead of slowing/freezing the longer you damage, you burn more and more damage the longer you maintain contact. Overheat to balance it. So start burn damaging yourself for holding fire too long.
Idk if this would count, but we have 2 ninja dps and a support, so it’d be cool of we got a samurai tank with a big sword and wall climb (maybe with a winston-esq leap)
A Support that “heals” through life-steal. Either through damage they deal on their own, or they grant an ally a temporary life-steal somehow.
An anti-tank Support with shotguns.
A support that has a deployable (either a turret, a box on the ground or something) that somehow grants an aura-effect similar to totems in other games. (Symm got moved from Support, and while Moira has a “deployable” that gives heals, it’s a bit different).
A Support that has a massive build as their ultimate. Think a tower with a jump-pad and ledges leading off to potential high-ground. Or a Jungle-gym with vines appearing from the sky.
A support (or any role for that matter) that can place a mountable turret, like an MG nest.
A support that grants a one-time-use ability. (Imagine if we gave this to Moira… She’s a doctor who alters genetics… It would fit so well with her lore to give allies like a one-time wraith-form/fade, or something).
A tank can absorb damage from their allies, and then take the damage themselves (think Sacrier from Dofus/Wakfu). A sacrificial playstyle.
A builder tank.
A damage hero with optical illusion camouflage (Sombra goes invisible, I’m thinking more along the lines of Infiltrators in Planetside 2, or Rogues you get too close to in WoW, or invisibility spells in Oblivion).
A melee damage hero that doesn’t rely on oneshots (old DF) or broken mobility (Genji). It’s hard to make though, as they’re naturally squishy.
A DoT (damage over time) damage hero. We have Ashe and Widow with their mine/dynamites but we don’t have… say something akin to the Pyro from TF2 (Mei is a bit similar, but she doesn’t have DoT).
A hovering (think Sigma/Zen, not flying like Pharah/Echo) damage hero. Rocket Cat, hello?
