I came here to say one thing only, having name change for free once in your life is really bad, it has to be at least free once in a year and feel free to make people pay for it if they want to change it twice in a year, I’m stuck with this name because of a troll from my friends and they didn’t know about changing name policy in blizzard before 2 years ago, because normal games with normal brains allow you to change your name

Just ask people in OW to report your name as inappropriate and the system will automatically flag your name and make you change it. You don’t get banned or suspended for this either, unless it’s a repeat offense.
While it sucks that you have to do it this way, it’s still a free name change?

While totally a thing…I personally would also like annual name changes.
I am used to having “toons” and treating a name like clothes…"new name new me "

I’m kind of in agreement with you. I’m happy with my name, but I don’t see any decent reason why they need to charge you to change your name other than greed.
Free name change once a year would be good.

I actually updated my response to include that it does suck, but it’s honestly the only way to do it atm.
Gotta live with the only tool we have available, sadly.
It would be nice for them to change this, but the only game tied to names when they merged with Bnet was WoW in 2008, so you did have that new toon, new me. Nobody saw the Bnet name unless you sent a Bnet friend request.
It’s a very old system that needs updating since their newer games reference your Bnet info.

I’m really afraid to make people report my name for the system to flag it, to be honest I’m afraid of having a ban for a week or something.
I’m not sure either if the devs will allow me to change my name if I explained the situation for them lol, but too late I guess this troll as I said was 2 years ago
You can try submit a ticket and see if Blizz will help, otherwise this:
They will decline your request and say you have to pay for it.
Flagging for inappropriate name does not ban or suspend you. I’ve done it and others have asked people to do it as well. Admittedly, I did it on an alt account, but it doesn’t ban you because it’s associated with Bnet, not your actual in-game actions.
The system is automatic also, so they don’t look into them and you’ll get a free name change. It only tells you that if this continues to happen, you will receive action against your account.
Yeah, Blizzard! Be more Ubisoft. (But not in the buggy, mediocre games sort of way!)

and you were able to change your alt account name without any problem after multiple report ?
they could punish you and make you pay for a battle tag change if you want to play again x)
At times I wish we could change our names more often. The original name for this account was “Craip”.
My Boyfriend at the time bought OW the day it came out to play with friends, played one weekend and never touched it again. I asked a few months later if he heard of the game but he just let me play on his account.
After a while, I played it more so he gave it to me and I changed the name to “Fuwafuwa” (And payed to get him a new account)
Fuwafuwa was an old nickname from my brother but he hasn’t called me it in years so I wouldn’t mind a newer name
EDIT: wait, scratch that. Apparently now-a-days if your name is reported, it will just change your name to a generic name. You don’t get to choose your name anymore.
Seems to only way to get a manual name change is to pay for it.

Yeah, I see that the policy changed. They used to allow you to change your name on your own, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

I really don’t understand why people want to change name so often. I think I have this one everywhere since I started using the internet.

You do you, I’m not complaining that you want to change your name. I’m just saying it’s an alien concept for me. I use Nibelung for over 15 years now. Never had the urge to change it for anything else.
I doubt Blizzard will give you a name change for free, but good luck on your request.
yeah I like it when people uses one name in everything. I’m used to name all my accounts blackgoku or goku, and it depends which one is available, and I used to be blackgoku here when I created my account
