Changes for Symmetra

As a lot of people know, Blizzard is looking to fix Symmetra. I don’t like her in game kit I honestly think for a lot of low ranked and low leveled players she can be really hard to deal with while pro players think she is useless. I want to express some of my ideas for the changes she is getting in the future. I am open for any opinions so you can agree or disagree with my opinions.

Remove the shield she gets with her health bar and give her normal health.
Make it so her primary fire on her Photon Projector will not go thru walls.
Make her ammo decrease faster by around 20 or 30%.

I think it’s good that they are looking for ways to evaluate and adjust Symmetra.

In my opinion I think Symmetra in higher ranks would have even lower pick rates, since right now some think she’s useless, if they implement the changes you mentioned. I think Symmetra should maybe have reduced ultimate charge, since right now a nest of turrets out the spawn and alt-fire just means instant ult. I agree that Symmetra does need some adjustments, but some smaller changes first in the PTR, like her Photon Projector needing a bit more aim and maybe she’d need closer lock-on. Her lock-on got buffed in PTR (and eventually live) a couple patches ago, so they might end up reverting that, since a lot of players think she’s in a bad spot.

I think that adding aim to her Photon Projector would good and I think that her ult charge is broken as well.

So the changes that so far have been suggested here is

  1. Reduce her engagement range ( Which is currently at 7m )
  2. Increase her aim ( Ok fine )
  3. Reduce her Ammo ( From 12 seconds to 8 seconds )
  4. Remove her only self regen ( shields ) and give her health.

So her pickrate will increase by nerfing her?
Trying to follow the logic here.

Currently, she can’t attack anyone beyond 7m from her
So as long as you re 7m or more, you are perfectly safe.

She has no self-regeneration ability ( besides her shields )
Her shields take 3 seconds to restart with no damage.
Only repairs 20 per second.

The changes suggested will turn her less than 1% pickrate
To -50% pickrate overnight.

I personally dont agree with the removal of self-regen. I think her regen should actually be buffed in my opinion, since her health is actually pretty weak in comparison to other supports, which all have a self-regenning ability / ultimate. Her healthpool should be 50 / 150 with shields in my opinion, just like zen. Her engagement range is at 9m right now, not 7m FYI.

Give her the unreal tournament shock rifle combos and remove the whole auto aim. Give her the ability to choose between healing and dps turrets.

Hmm… well I would like to see them shift her turrets to focus on slowing people. Add hp to the turret, do away with the damage and increase the slow effect. That way should could be used to combat mobility. Yes nest would go away but spreading them out would along routes would be super effective. I am not sure what to do with her gun. I would say if you gave range and added an aim factor to her gun more mechanical players would be drawn to her, but again not sure about that. I dont play her a lot so I am not sure if anything needs to be done with her ults except maybe let team mates see them through walls. Also by letting team mates see it through walls it might reduce the amount of symms that drop people off cliffs.

One if the big issues with Symmetra, is that her ability to attack others is situational. Despite doing a lot of damage, you need to time it right, and that fits in really well with her planning archetype. In terms of damage, she allows defensive capabilities in this way. The support aspect she has seems to only be her ult. As such, I recommend the following changes:

Passive buff that gives everyone 25 shields in a 50 unit radius. Turrets will prioritize allies to restore shields at 5.5 hps per turret. Remove turret slowdown. Remove shield generator, and replace with a teleporter that starts with 3 charges, and gets more charges over time; turrets decrease the time to get another charge by attacking the teleporter at low priority (vs allies and enemies). Remove photon barrier. Replace with a third attack on her weapon. Primary fire can only target 5 meters, however, it will recharge nearby shields at 20 hps when damaging an enemy. When the beam gets stronger, the heal gets stronger, not the damage. The damage can be a good 60 dps. Secondary fire will be a non-charged orb that flies a bit faster, does 60 damage, and fires faster. Third attack will be a direct attack that restores all shields every 6 seconds on allies (at a fast, not instant, rate).

I hope you understand the reasoning for these changes. I can go into detail for the reasons why I pick these changes upon request.

Her engagement range is 7m, her disengagement range is 9.5.
