Change Overwatch Stats Display

Blizzard,

  • Remove participation eliminations and only show Final Blow count as eliminations for all Players OR
  • participation eliminations should only account as “assists” OR
  • create a new stat called, “Elimination Assist” or whatever have you.
  • there needs to be a separation when it comes to Elimination count and how it’s counted. The context should show FINAL BLOWS as Elimination and elimination participation should count as Assists or “Elim Assists”.
  • Publicly show how many “saves” support players get

These TWO main stats are critical to and for the perception of the Player and context of performance.

For too long supports think they’re doing a great job thinking they’re adding value because their Healing Output is High, but where are the “saves” to give it context?

For too long DPS think they’re doing a great job adding value because their Elimination count is high or damage output is high, but where are the “Final Blows” to give it context?

For too long have these stat displays overinflated the ego of the Player in the game where they think their output is bringing value, but, in fact, it’s worthless output—it’s feeding output.

High damage output with hardly any eliminations is worthless damage output and it’s only feeding into enemy support ults and does not create PLAYS THAT WIN GAMES. High Elimination count with hardly any FINAL BLOWS is ego inflating and all eliminations that are NOT final blows should be seen as “Assists”.

High healing output, but hardly any REAL saves, is worthless healing output because it’s not creating PLAYS that WIN GAMES.

So much complaining this and that. Diff this, diff that. Ridiculous.

Players are misreading the Stats because it’s being displayed incorrectly.

Look,

When I play in a match, many times I perform in a way to help my teammates gain the stats, while I generate the opportunities for them to get picks. For example: When I have a Widow teammate, I’ll play off angle, forward with Hanzo and bait the enemy for Widow to get picks.

I do this very often as I try to feed my team their stats by creating opportunities for them and then get dumped on by my team with me having ‘low’ stats. DID WE NOT WIN!? of course we did.

Getting tired of ungrateful teammates.

Anyway, change the stats so we can stop the complaining and REALLY see who the Play makers are.

i agree the information would probably be more meaningful but I still think it would be flawed even though I think your idea is in the right direction…

There are DPS hero’s who won’t often get the final blow but ARE contributing their share and there are supports that will be left out in the same way with nearly no “saves” but are contributing just as much. - its obvious you know that with your hanzo/widow example… IDK how you’d track how much you’re helping by acting as bait but I feel you man I literally do this too.

I kinda just wish like most modern MMO’s we could customize our HUDs a little. What if you could control what information you see when you hit TAB. Like if my team is playing a widow maybe I want to know when I hit TAB that it would show their crit accuracy / # of shots fired. If my team is playing brig when I hit tab I could set it to show brigs inspire up time / whip shot accuracy… She probably wouldn’t have as many ‘saves’ as a kiriko or ana or bap, but knowing she has near 100% uptime might make me more confident they aren’t throwing.

If I could, I would have custom information shown for almost every hero… but yeah in essence I agree with you the TAB page is practically useless to me regarding stats… I really just use it to see what hero’s are being played and ult tracking. I would leave the TAB page as it is by default because IMO ego boosting is unfortunately required for ‘engagement’ purposes I’m sure. But letting players customize their huds a little more and customize what information/stats is displayed in advanced settings would be epic. especially if you could set hero specific stats.
