Challenge: make Mercy more fun without making her any stronger

Step 1 - Healing

  • Revert to 60HPS. She was weak on release with it at 50, she’s weak now with it.

Step 2 - Resurrect

  • Bin it off. Ability Rez is unbalanceable, Mass Rez would cause a huge backlash, it’s easier to just limit it to Junkerstein and Uprising (as Mass Rez) only and avoid the hassle it causes.

Step 3 - Valkyrie

  • Now a standard E ability
  • 12 second cooldown
  • 6 second uptime (cooldown doesn’t begin until after the uptime ends)
  • Free Flight
  • No other benefits it currently has

Step 4 - Ultimate

  • New ultimate = Salvation
  • Mercy goes full Gandalf and thrusts her staff into the ground
  • All teammates below 50% health are delivered from harm, with their new health being full health minus what they were at (eg a 10hp Genji suddenly has 190hp, a 75hp Bastion now has 225hp, a 199hp Orisa now has 201hp, a 1hp Hog now has 599hp etc)
  • Very high ult charge required

The ultimate acts similarly to the concept of Mass Rez, but with a lot more risk of things going wrong. Ult too early, and your teammates only get a minimal increase in health. Ult too late, and your teammates die from taking too much damage. No need to change any ult line, because Heroes never die!!! still fits saving a teammate from near certain death. In fact it probably fits better because Rez required them to die.

Making Valk an ability, and free flight only, is what it should have been from the beginning.

I feel like that kinda infringes on orisa’s ult a bit no?

Great. Now I want a hero that can control “dead” heroes like a marionette puppet.

Would just be the healing.

I’ll throw my idea out there once more.

Using GA on a new target increases your healing to 70HPS for 1 second, 60HPS for the next second, and then back to 50HPS.

It incentivizes being active and encourages mobility and zipping from target to target in order to maximize healing output keeping mercy active and engaging, and discourages pocketing and stationary play by keeping the relatively low healing for targets that just have the beam on them the whole time.

Leave her kit exactly as it is now, but allow her to hold her pistol and caduceus staff at the same time, mouse wheel switches the beam for Healing or Dmg boost.

Done…

She’s a complete character, and has much to offer the team. Her added offensive power makes up for the loss of healing.

Haha I mean I said without buffing her. So there’d need to be a trade off

I find her to be lots of fun in her current state, so I’d say dont change her at all.

She’d be more fun, however, if she could duet with Reinhardt in the Busan Karaoke bar…so theres that

There would be a tradeoff, you couldn’t heal/boost while reloading your pistol.

oh boy… I have way too many of these… I hope you like reading. I think most of these keep her power level about the same.

Idea the 1st:
Instead of the current PTR buff, make it so Valkyrie heals 70-80 on the main beam and still 50 on the chain beams. This brings back target prioritization that she’s been lacking during Valk.

Idea the 2nd:
Bin the current PTR buff. Instead we make Mercy into the burst healing specialist with the addition of this mechanic.

Healing Capacitor
While not being used to heal, Mercy’s Caduceus staff stores its healing, up to somewhere between 100 and 150.

When the healing beam is reconnected to an allied hero, the Healing Capacitor instantly drains, providing a burst of healing equal to the amount of healing stored.

If Mercy is in Valkyrie when this triggers, all recipients of the chain beams get the same full burst of healing.

I didn’t get a whole lot of support for this one… some people are really against giving Mercy a burst heal for some reason… even though her current E kinda is one.

Idea the 3rd:
A lot of the fun of Mercy is figuring out what beam on who, when. Let’s double down on that.

HPS back to 60
Right click is either: Current damage boost, 20% DR boost, some % of faster CD.
E rotates right click effects.
Valkyrie has 1 instant or at least shorter cast melee Resurrect on Q.
Valkyrie no longer has chain beams but instead doubles the effect of any active beam.
Valkyrie is shorter.
Maybe remove perma regen.

Idea the 4th:
Set healing back to 60
Q is now 1 instant Resurrect
E is now a 3s 8-10s CD ability that adds 30 HPS to either beam… so either 90 HPS or 30 HPS + 30% DB.

I have more if you want them.

Choose one or more

Base kit:

  • 60 hps
  • 55 hps
  • hps increases the more u heal someone ( 51, 52, 53,…,60 hps)
  • hps increases if ally avoided taking dmg ( 50 hps --> 80)
  • hps decreases the more u heal someone ( 70 hps --> 50)

Rez:

  • rez starts its cooldown when match commences (no more early rez)
  • resource meter
  • tied to Valkyrie exclusively

Altough rez is so clunky it is kind of fine to me, I think resource meter would be fine.

Valkyrie:

  • direct (main beam) 70-85 hps and chain 35-50 hps
  • 65-70 hps (both main and chain)

Fun is subjective. For me it’s only Mercy’s slow heals ( 50 hps ) that makes her extremely unfun to play. I feel uneffective as a healer and that’s not fun to me. After all I think her 60 hps was fine. Change my mind if u want to.

  • Valkyrie no longer allows you to fly.
  • It now reduces cooldown of guardian angel to 0.
