Censor Racist and Toxic Chats

This game will censor GG EZ but not set up a system that allows people to spew the N slur, F slur, and all the ones under the sun. I take off the censor to see the word “fck” not allow people to call me racist and homophobic things. Dont even get me started on the shi**y a$$ report system, THEY DO NOT BAN THEM. I have gotten banned for matching someones energy after having enough toxicity in my games and yet the person telling me to “kill myself f****t” doesnt?! Fix this hot pile of dog crap, i dont know why more of the player base is not okay with this.

So…why don’t you just disable chat if it bothers you so much?

I mean, as someone who streams, I get why they should censor the racist terms and stuff. As someone who does not care what a stranger online says… I don’t think they should.

Guess I’m weird.

It’s not foolproof as you can use symbols and other methods to convey offensive messages.
Gundam Evolution has the best censorship I’ve seen so far. You cannot even type, “Hello” in chat because it contains 4 letters that can be interpreted as a swear.
But you can still use clever spacing or other symbols to overcome the censorship so the inconvenience to good chat users hardly outweighs the censorship.

Thats actually really bad design its literally just the laziest way possible without any edge cases coded in. Minetogeter mod minecraft tried the same thing and it backfired hard many words would get people autobanned so they reversed it and just have paid mods in chat

Them: “censor slurs and foul language”

Also then: voluntarily unchecks the “censor chat” option in settings leading to a firehose of naughty words

I totally agree with you on this. In fact, I just made a post about it. Some people might say, “Why don’t you just use the censor chat button?” But there’s a huge difference between using swear words and directing slurs at someone. I don’t care if the word “F***” goes through, but I really think that circumventing chat filters to spit derogatory slurs should be dealt with. Normally, I’d brush it off as just some random online troll, but lately, it’s become a serious problem in this game and the community, and there are barely any consequences. It’s especially frustrating because even if they do get banned, they can just create a new account and keep going at it. It’s beyond ridiculous. People play games like this to escape the oppression and hate they deal with in their everyday lives, even if it’s just for an hour or so. But now, it seems like that escape is impossible.

1000% agree that it has gotten SOOO much worse. like its not that hard to instantly MUTE people for saying slurs. valorant mutes you for say midg*t! which i think they should do but if words that no one uses against others can be muted in a game like that. then OW can mute for more prevalent slurs. and when i call it out in match chat people dont care and that is HORRIBLE and feels like i went back to early 2000s

That’s because people ~don’t~ care.

Turn on censored chat. Or advocate for a personal chat censor that will filter out words you don’t want to see personally. However I feel the latter will
cause more ‘problems’ for clear reasons even if the intent is honest and the system works.

people find ways the game doesnt pick up or they have the filters disabled on there end

then those people need consequences. you sound like you are advocating for people to say what they want. its literally not hard to make a program that mutes ppl for words said

Just turn off chat if it tilts you so much

If they break the rules then yes.

Report, mute, block and move on. You don’t need confirmation that you did the right thing.

However if someone is saying something you don’t like seeing, then you currently have options to deal with the issue that you’re facing. Either censor chat (which you already admitted you did because the F bomb is inoffensive to you despite being “foul language” generally) or turn chat off because text chat is pretty much worthless anyway from a gameplay perspective.

Take initiative rather than taking agency away.

Call me old fashioned, but if the vernacular of any society is as expansive as it is I have no problem with the wider vocabulistic range of words in existence being used.

Even if there is something that happens to offend me, I can use my own agency and tools provided to me to:

  1. Report, mute, block and move on.

  2. Escalate and turn on censored chat to mitigate and control what I do see.

  3. Go scorched earth and turn off chat entirely.

And if said program is implemented it’s also just as easy to know this and circumvent the filters. The current system works better because it assumes that most people have uncensored chats therefore censor circumvention isn’t a tool being used.

Mute your chat if you’re getting tilted, you’re literally drinking from the firehose.

It actually is. Who defines “toxicity?” How should it be “handled?” Should it be automatic? How would that work? Why are you giving these toxic people so much power? They are disturbing your peace of mind.

Unfortunately, it appears you will be forever mad
