This is my first time in these forums…My husband and I have been casual OW players for a while now, but i was curious about getting ranked for Competitive. Ill probably still mostly do quickplay (because it’s hard to commit to the longer comp games with a baby), but i just wanted to try comp out.
So my question is, why does it seem impossible to win any of my placement matches? I main Moira and feel that i do well on her, and ive been able to play her in all but 1 of my comp games so far. Im not even getting troll teams or anything. I keep getting games where we do pretty well for the first round or so, and then halfway through, we cant kill anyone or stay alive and end up losing.
I know that im not the greatest player, and im not too concerned with ranking super high, but i just cant understand how i havent managed to get even a single win in my placements so far.
Ill try Ana out. But in quickplay, i almost always get gold heals on Moira while often also having silver/bronze eliminations, obj kills, and sometimes obj time. Even in my placement matches, my own stats have still been pretty good overall.
I know that i should ideally be playing more champions, but I dont get a ton of time to play this game since having a baby, and i really enjoy Moira.
You’re in a hard spot tbh. Competitive gaming and tight real life schedules don’t really go too well together. The easy answer would be “just play more, and you will start winning”, but it doesn’t really solve anything if time is already a limiting factor for you.
If this is your first time playing ranked (which it sounds like) then it’ll take some time for the matchmaker to find your true skill range. You’ll find a lot of matches to be unbalanced or one sided initially and generally it would take more than 15 games to calibrate it. To get to your true rank it would take between 50 and 100 games in my experience. I know you don’t have time for it but one game a day will net you around 65 games played so that should be alright if you’ve got the time for it and want to try a bit harder at comp.
For some reason there are a TON of people doing placements right now, mostly on low-level accounts. Some say smurfs, some say cheaters, but either way it’s hard to win if you’re matched with them.
I don’t think there’s an answer right now. You might play through it and see where you end up and try to figure out how to address the gap in that rank, or you might wait 3 weeks for role queue and start from there.
She’s worse than Ana in every way unless you’re just getting hard dives and can’t stay alive as Ana. Sleep dart wins way more fights than fade, biotic grenade wins way more than heal orb, and nano boost wins way more than coalescence.
Having said that, placements are a mess. Don’t worry about them too much.
I mean, i win plenty of quickplay games. I know those might be very different, but i still get good stats in the comp games ive done. I guess i wouldve expected to atleast win 1 or 2 of the placements, but right now i think im at 8 losses with 1 left to go.
Anyways ive started practicing Ana in quickplay a bit, and im going to practice tanks some more too.
Well, i ended my placements with 8 losses, 1 draw, and 1 win (finally), and placed with 1555 SR.
Nice. Now, if you care about that number and want to climb, keep in mind that as is your first ranked, your SR may be incorrect.
I would say that your actual SR is higher, and you have to climb a little up to there (it makes sense to me).
And, climbing with healer is harder than with a DPS.
If you don’t care (the best option). Then just play QP or Arcade and have fun.
Worst forum advice ever. Moira is a much better choice for any match where you can’t trust your teammates to make good choices. Coalescence always does something useful; Nanoboost is often totally wasted.
You ever think that maybe you shouldn’t tell masters players they’re wrong when you’re gold? The ranking system isn’t perfect but there’s generally a level of understanding of the game, hero balance, etc that correlates with rank and you’re just simply wrong here. If you can aim, Ana is in a MUCH better place right now. That’s why you don’t see moira in high level play. There’s like one moira main in the ENTIRE NA GM population. That’s not a coincidence.
If it’s low elo you are wrong. You said it yourself Ana is much better if you have aim. Are you going to advice someone stepping into comp to play Ana when they like will place gold. Masters is what top 8% percent. What’s the likelihood her aim is master tier.
More likely it is that you are a bronze or silver player. For whatever reason known only to blizzard the placement matches start in high gold and even if you lose all your matches you’ll still place in silver. You need to play quite a few matches before you’ll find your level.
