Trying to queue for our competitive matches with 5 friends and we’re all within 1000 SR of each other in gold/platinum so we should be able to play with each other but for some reason the queue is telling us our skill level is too far apart? We’ve found the issue is with our highest rated players (Season high 2981, final 2933) (Final 2192, Season High 2342) as highest and lowest.
We’re very confused
if someone is still in placements then it might be the reason since it then bases it off mmr (I think) to prevent some high rating player playing with someone whos much worse than them
Thing is, none of us had done any placements. we were all fresh ready to do all 10 together. I guess the MMR of the highest or lowest of us must have gone out of the range?
if you are doing placements, then there is no limit who you queue with
(i.e. unplaced master can play with unplaced silver)
(unless they changed it)
This happened to me as well this season. A friend had a new account and after 1 game we were too far apart to finish the placements. (we DID eventually place over 1k apart me at 1k-ish him at 2300)
There was specifically a change to grouping placements and mmr this season but its not fully understood yet.
The system previously was that everyone had their own range, and they can play with anyone within that range (e.g. a plat player (2500) can play with a diamond (3250) and a silver (1750). The plat would serve as the ‘link’, which allows silvers to play with high ranked players.) The new system makes it so that everyone must be in range of the middle person alone. Say the middle person is 2500. Only people above 2000 and below 3000 can queue with the 2500.
EDIT: Regarding placement people, Masters and Grandmasters cannot play with placement people, unless they are in placement too. If your rank is diamond or below, you can still play with people in placement.
