His account has 1 match played because the season started, mine has 0 played. His season high for season 8 was 3480. My high for season 8 was 2333. For some reason we cannot play ranked together as it says the skill level of members in your group is too far apart but we are both unranked. ???

It may be your MMR is too far apart. I know the SR system won’t let you partner if it’s over 1000 difference. The game probably sees your MMR is over that and prevents it
Your ranks in Capture the Flag Competitive may be out of range. This was a problem with CTF Comp placements while Season 8 was still live. This is listed in the known issues list.
