Can't play because the update is too big

The most recent update file is excessively large and as I’m not given the option to download it to a temporary directory prior to installing to the game, I cannot play the game and will need to uninstall either Overwatch, or games I play more than Overwatch.

The SSD I’ve installed Overwatch on has a capacity of 249.6GB total. I’ve used 216.8GB. I have 33GB available and it’s not enough space to UPDATE the game. I have a 4TB HDD sitting with 1TB free, and due to the installation process, it’s not possible to download the greater than 33GB update to this HDD so that Overwatch on the SSD can be updated.

I’m frankly quite irritated, as the update is, to my knowledge, bigger than the game itself!

The option I click is the “Update” button. The error message I receive is “Your hard drive is full! Please clear some space or select a different hard drive.”

It’s possible that your page file is actually reserving a large portion of the free space for regular tasks on your PC. Try running the Windows Disk Cleanup tool to remove old Windows install files and other cached data. Then reboot. Then try to install again. 33GB should be plenty of space.
