I’m logged into battle.net but when I try to play OW it just sits at the game log in screen saying “Connecting to server…” and after about a minute, it gives up and shows the empty log in screen.

Same. I was disconnceted mid game and cannot log back in.

I noticed a reply was marked as solved but didn’t mention a solution, so I’ll give a shot at providing some solutions.
Almost every game is built with some sort of server connection redundancy. If you can’t connect to the game server after some time (usually 30 seconds) it will stop trying to connect to you, which is why it gives up after a bit.
Always ensure your internet connection, network configuration, port, IP settings and firewall are not the issues with connecting to the game server.
You can also use the Blizzard Looking Glass Test at us-looking-glass_battle_net/ (replace “_” with “.”) to see if the issue is front-end or back-end.
