My SR floats around 2000 on Xbox give or take and I can’t seem to improve it. These are the heroes I usually play.
DPS: Doomfist Genji Sombra Pharah Soldier Reaper Bastion
Tanks: Rein Orisa Roadhog Zarya
Supports: Zenyatta Mercy
I enjoy playing Doomfist and genji the most and can carry with them in competitive at my rank. (overwatch tracker put me in top 100 on Xbox for Doomfist stats) But I try to be flexible. If I play Doomfist and it’s not going well/I’m getting hard countered I will switch for the team. Or if the team needs another tank I switch. You get the idea
I always try to communicate to the team and make call outs as needed usually I find most of my teammates don’t. I never flame my teammates for mistakes, so we don’t tilt regardless of their error. (Example) diving in for a sweet nanoblade but ana misses. Apologies and I would respond “hey don’t worry about mistakes happen”
I watch a lot of videos on coaching, positioning, ULT management/feeding, things like that. And it feels really lame to be so interested in a game but apparently seem like I’m really not that good. I feel like I often carry.
What can I do to climb?
Looking at your DPS, use Pharah and Reaper most. Genji and Doomfist are both great but at the elo you’re at, the team won’t be able to optimize their usage. Pharah and Reaper are great for any rank and the hitscans are your level wont be able to do squat. Roadhog is great to self sustain and roll. Rein and Orisa are both nice but honestly, getting people behind you in matchmaking is hard as hell. Try learning the Dive tanks. Mercy’s still great and so is Zen but the problem with Zen is that if your people won’t peel for you, you may be screwed. Try Moira for mobility and better burst healing. Also, find one dude to queue with. Duo queuing will still get you against solo queuer’s but will guarantee you one teammate who’s capable. Hope it helps!
If you could carry games with Genji at your elo then you wouldnt be stuck ~2000 SR.
pharah/ reaper. and I guess ill try picking up Winston and moira.
I’ve only started soldier recently but I like him and he seems like a solid hitscan. thoughts?
Also what do you mean the team wont be able to optimize DF or genji? just a bit confused. What would a team that is able to optimize them look like?
Soldier is arguably the most viable hitscan. McCree is too niche to be great in all situations and Widowmaker is either getting picks or be trash so Soldier is wonderful. In terms of me saying that the team not optimizing Doomfist and genji isn’t so much the team composition as it is going in and valuing the dive and picks Doomfist and Genji usually get. For example, playing a flanker type genji gets the enemy healers quite low right? The issue is that many of those healers have a means of self sustain: Mercy has passive self heal as does lucio, Moira has fade and heal ball etc. A lot of the times, the situation requires another to help and deal damage alongside genji combo along with creating room for the Genji so he doesnt die when the enemy collapses to help their healer. This requires coordination that is hard to find in high silver, low gold matchmaking. I’m simply stating that playing those two characters that require the team to dive in and help the is not ideal when trying to climb unless you’re a diamond tier genji that can carry etc.
If you’re stuck at a rank, you’re not carrying at all, period . For actually getting better, try to narrow your hero pool in the low ranks. You need to be really good at a couple , and have a little knowledge in an emergency to play a couple others .
Trying to be the most flexible player in OW never works. That’s why the top ranks specialize so much.
for my climb form bronze to plat it was hanzo and tracer
@UnluckySwami. That’s interesting. that’s for suggestion/ clear up. I couldn’t use Widow to save my life but I guess I’ll try playing some of those heros more. Thanks!
@YenZatta. do you mean a couple total or per role? the characters I mentioned are the ones I play at all. Usually I play (as of recently) Rein, Soldier, Zenyatta, Doomfist the most. How many is a good number to stick too?
