Same. Didnt even get an warning to exit the game for an update, it just kept showing a loading animation on the currency and the shop. Now it cant connect to any server and just keeps retrying.
“We are currently conducting a live maintenance on Overwatch, which should take a few minutes. During this time you may need to restart your game client.”
From experience, that ‘few minutes’ can quickly turn into extended maintenance 
(I keep getting kicked back to queue personally)
(Nevermind, the client was being weird and launched two instances - I’m in now)
Seems like I got in. Would be nice if those warnings were shown ingame, because I am not sure if Steam users have that info anywhere on the app.

Blizzard has a habit of poor patching processes. Still an issue hours later, after restarting game client and device.

Yeah my game is stuck retrying to connect
Yep currently affecting me too, can’t play.
Yeah I just tried to log in and it keeps failing to connect.

Game server connection failed… retrying. Has been happening to me for at least 45 minutes now. Hopefully it’s the server side of things? I see people in my friends list that are playing the game but I can not connect for some reason.

Tried all client side/ISP side fixes.
+1. reinstalled, repaired, restarted pc and client; definitely bugged.
For everyone in here that gets stuck connecting to server : do you have an alt you can try to login with, or maybe a friend that will let you log in on your machine?
Additionally be curious to see how many of you with issues purchased the ultimate battle pass with the extra skins
My wife cant login on her account and I also cant login as her on my machine, but we can both login to my account on either of our machines. She has the ultimate battle pass and I dont.
It seems clear that the issue is specifically tied to an account and not the client itself or the game files
