Cannot play , MS spikes are killing me

Hi,

I´m running OW2 on a 1440p 170mhz monitor, with Radeon 6700 xt and Ryzen 7. I get around 200 fps ingame with fps only going up and down for 15 fps at Epic settings.
My MS however just randomly goes to over 100ms then back down to 40ms making it unplayable for me. The game doesn´t freeze, just lags out for 1 second and most of the time that is enough to get killed.
I tried lowering the setting to low, disabling dynamic scale, playing with limiting fps to 100 or lower nothing works.
My download speed is 100mbps and upload 20mbps.

Many people have these same issues. It’s their servers. They are gaslighting us and telling us it’s our wireless or our ISP.

I cannot imagine why they would just let that sort of thing go unchecked… why aren´t the streamers having similar problems or am I following the lucky ones?

Odds are you are having network spikes. It technically could be between your ISP and Blizzard’s servers but it’s usually not. Are you actually playing on WiFi?

This speed tells me you are on cable. Cable networks in the US are held together with duct tape, literally I snapped a pic recently of my local cable-co hanging cables with duct tape. Getting them to fix an issue can sometimes take persistence. They will tell you everything is fine while you watch a ping test dropping packets.

You need to run ping tests. The issue won’t be your speed (bandwidth), it will be latency (ping,ms).
speed(dot)cloudflare(dot)com does 20 pings, that’s not always enough to catch a ping spike in action but it’s worth running it.
ping-test(dot)net pings servers that it chooses, 30 times each. You could run that and see if you get spikes on nearby servers. If it’s pinging Australia from the US though, for example, you should expect some spikes.

You can also run ping tests from the command prompt in Windows.

I´ve tried everything, i even tried three different internet sources. It is the same thing always, lag spikes lasting for 2 seconds where i end up dead or off the map or somewhere in a corner. I give up, just gonna uninstall and play something else.

Same thing to me.
Some lag spikes that makes my frame drops.
It stopped doing it for a couple of weeks, now it’s back

UPDATE : ive noticed there are NO Ms/Lag spikes in the late hours 2300Hrs my time. I can play normally, but if i try to log in around 8pm its terrible. So it has to be the server population, Blizzard really is an indie company.

This could also be backhaul congestion.

Any of the links between your location and the end server could be to blame.

You could try a VPN and if the latency issues go away then it’s the backhaul/routing to blame, if you still have latency issues the backhaul/routing could be the same as when not using the VPN with the same issues. Could also be a matter of the servers themselves being overloaded which is less likely but still very possible.

Playing today again, durring the day Lag spikes make the game unplayable, ill check later in the evening again. It has to be the servers if i dont have any Lag issues when the server traffic is lower.
