Cancelling Emote Animations?

I didn’t know what other forum to put this in so I decided here rather than bug report, but it’s extremely irritating that there’s no way to cancel out of your emote animations. There’s been a number of times where I slipped up and hit the emote option of the comms wheel instead of what I was trying to hit and ended up in a 5 second animation in the middle of a shoot-out, instantly getting targeted and mowed down by the entire enemy team. There’s already logic for player input canceling out of certain emotes with persistent animations (i.e sitting, walking, dancing) albeit with an odd delay. If not applying that logic to all emotes and cutting the delay, why not at least make it so that taking damage knocks you out of an emote? I’m sure 99% of the time when someone is doing an emote and they start taking damage from somewhere, they probably want to be able to respond to that instead of basking in the animation a little longer

Non-pro tip: don’t emote during a match.

I removed the emote option from the wheel because I did it accidentally twice.

there is no point emoting after a match either because the game ends so quick now lol

Me, personally, I like to emote after a play that more or less qualifies as POTG and at least four people on the enemy team are dead. It’s not quite the same as giving taunts in TF2, but the purpose is there.

Kinda funny, I got POTG as Brigitte a few days ago after a reaper in the same match hit Q and got four participant kills in one go. Brigitte’s laugh emote was just the best cherry on top.

WE CAN DO THAT? Tell me how please (console).

well I don’t TRY to, it’s just I occasionally swap between playing on console and PC, and on console I obviously can’t access a separate emote wheel from the comms wheel with the lack of buttons, so I like to keep the one option available… but it’s a double edged sword with my uncoordinated babyhands

Options → controls → communication

Here there’s a communication section at the top that says “communication menu” and it is set to down on the d-pad. All that is listed below that are the options set per piece of the wheel.

You can also customize it per hero. Like, I have “Sorry” and “you’re welcome” set for supports.

Ah, gotcha.

I dunno what console is like, but that other fella raises a good point. It’s worth looking for a way to simply cancel the emote wheel or maybe un-equipping every emote from every character.

I was thinking about this all the time. The amount of time I accidently emoted and got killed…just let us to cancell it -_-

Some emotes can be cancelled. Not sure why others can’t. I took off the souvenir ones because they take forever to stop.

I’d rather have steps to make it easier to not accidentally emote in the first place.

An environment with freely cancelling emotes sounds like a worse version of voice line spam to me. Besides, I like the commitment to taunts in any game. If I’m willing to do it, I should be willing to be shut up in the process.

I dont think they allow you to cancel it to reduce toxicity
