Cancel 5v5, revert Role Lock instead

As I understand it, they’re making the change to 5v5 not for any gameplay reason, but because they don’t have any other ideas anymore about how to reduce the ridiculously long DPS queue times. So for that they’re gonna rework all the Tanks, a bunch of DPS and Supports, delete iconic abilities (Sombra’s Hack for one), and break the symmetry between the roles. Completely changing up the game, and who knows what a mess they’ll make of things.

Personally, instead of all that, I would rather have them just go back to the old system before 222. Queue times were never a problem back then, everyone could find a game quickly. As for the “five DPS” teams… that happens a lot now, in QPC/Open Queue, because most Tank and Support players play in Role Queue, which has turned those modes into a DPS Wild West. Once everyone’s back in the same playlist I think we’ll mostly see three DPS teams again, which is fine.

It’s not an ideal solution and it comes with its own problems, but for me it’s still much preferable to the alternative. So yeah. #RevertRoleLock.

Nah, I’d rather not have 5 dps on my team. Even if it doesn’t happen every game, it still did, even above masters and it was an insta loss. There’s footage of it. Games decided in the spawnroom aren’t fun.

Role lock and now 5v5 are the best things they have added to OW. Or soon to add.
I’ll take both. Together.

That’s the idea. To get away from, stand behind the barrier bot and slowly walk forward simulator.

And they didn’t say they were going to take away Sombra’s hack. They said they were looking at it and may tweak it somehow.
If they cant get it to work any other way, they won’t change it much.

It’s supposed to be a brand new game, going back to the same problems that plagued OW for 4 years makes absolutely no sense…

I’d rather be the only tank (which I don’t like) than go back to open queue. Open queue is straight meme.

As someone who only plays role-less QP and comp I can tell you almost all my games are 222 or 132…in fact I don’t have to say because I have actually shown everybody my matches on here every single season since OQ has returned (and will do again next week most likely)

The 5 dps thing is overwatch’s boogie man…a scary story everyone likes to toss around that’s a super exaggeration of what goes on in game…the only people that ever saw 5 dps in a match were people who were themselves inflexible and playing dps themselves

As for the rest of the post…I’m not a fan of RQ but I understand it’s existence…and yes, 122 is being done to reduce queue…but ALSO to address problems within the tank role itself…namely that people don’t seem to find them fun…and because of balancing issues that 2 tanks present…

But mostly it’s a response to how people play the game…it requires major changes

Its not only DPS queues. They’re trying to build the game to be more competitive intead of a casual fps.

You mean make it so that the general population of the game only has ONE quickplay mode, instead of splitting them into two different modes and then being shocked when the population of both modes is sub par? Nooooo that couldn’t be done, because then how would people feel confident that they’ve definitely got a tank and a healer distribution that they falsely believe will give them a better match experience?!

In all seriousness, having the ‘proper distribution’ is not worth a dime if half the players on both teams are poorly matched to the other players on the team. By dividing QP’s general player pool into arcade and general 222, they guaranteed us a worse matchmaker experience because now there’s less to pick from than ever before.

I hate role lock, and I hate the limitation it brings to the game. Honestly they should revert 222 and put 5v5 as a game mode in arcade; there’d be role lock in that, people who like role lock and the ‘guarantee’ can still play that way, and we’d get regular QP back. That’s a win-win-win IMO.

Seriously. I pretty much only play arcade QP and there’s very rarely a game that’s actually all DPS. Usually it’s about 3 dps and the rest are tanks/healers. It’s even rare that I get a game that’s 4 DPS, so to act like EvErY GaMe is DPS is just disingenuous. They’ve invented this fiction of the past so that they can keep their rose colored glasses on with the present, because they’re control freaks that like that 222 ‘guarantees’ them what they falsely think is better. It’s a soothing balm to their control oriented brains.

Yep exactly my thoughts. 5v5 is a direct result of 2v2v2 being unsustainable and now they are trying to force the game further down a terrible direction because people are hysterical when there is a couple more dps in a match.

Let’s not go back to the old days of GOATS.

Role Queue. Open Queue. Priority Passes. No need to revert any of that.

5v5 should be easier to balance, like it’s easier for an artist to draw characters with four fingers or less.
