Can you DDOS on Overwatch?

Does anyone know if it is possible to DDOS on console? Had a match where me and my friend got lagged out of a match at the same time where we were holding very well and we come back and get rolled… What makes me think it was a ddos was this.

Simultaneous lagout at a convenient time.(a serious lag too. Never seen anything like it)

When we rejoined we weren’t placed in spawn but where we were before we got kicked.

Had a smurf named "BlameTheLag4Head. I messages him asking him if he did that he says “no you”

The smurf is a 3400 player but played like a low plat. His team wasn’t that good either. We went on to full hold and push them after that settled.

I know it is a lot of circumstantial evidence. But is it possible they have been winning matches by lagging out teams? Is it possible to DDOS? I know it happens in R6s (can vouch for that)

I’m getting this problems too, in r6s and apex also.

If its on the internet, it can be ddos’d

yes ow can get ddos’d dont ask me how i know

Rumor is there are ways on Xbox to get other peoples IP addresses that are in the match with you and they can ddos each person. There are several videos out there of people talking about it over the games voice chat and saying they are ddosing the other team.

From what I understand it’s an Xbox (Microsoft) problem and not a Blizzard problem.

There is a tactic commonly known as “nuking” and it is known to occur on console platforms (it used to be a serious problem on PC in Korea, but safeguards in place make it far more difficult these days). The basic idea from what I understand is that a cheater is able to identify the IP address of a specific player by hacking the information from the console network’s social features and begin a small-scale DDoS attack to jam out that player’s connection to the internet, causing them to drop.

That being said, nuking is extremely uncommon on all platforms and those who attempt it can get caught and banned from that console network (and any applicable games). I would be more skeptical of an overall disconnection. Nevertheless, if you feel extremely suspicious, report them for cheating (specify “nuking/DDoS” in the description).

DDoS to blizzard server: possible but costs a lot to do it.
DDoS to another player in game: theoretically it is impossible. the other players IP address is not revealed to your client. All your connection/communication is to blizzard server. Unless there is loophole on server.
DDoS to your ISP server or backbone server of Internet: It happened a lot. But it is not Game related issue.

Other thoughts: sometimes the game server on Blizzard side would drop some players due to complicated reasons. The server is not down, just drops the connection to certain IP range addresses. it rarely happened but it does happen.

Yeah i DDOS:

Dont deny overwatch sucks :smiling_imp:

In my case, I got DDosed after some guy invited me to a party. Me being stupid, thought it was from my team and just accepted the invitation. As soon as I joined, my connection dropped and I was stuck in the loading screen (One where it says Joining to server). This lasted for a good 5-10 minutes until I could finally rejoin.

Make sure not to join some random persons party whilst you’re in a match.

If it was a DDOS the server would kick everyone

Not just you two.

Edit: But according to Wyoming maybe it can be targeted.

fUNNy someone complaining about connection issues with a sombra profile pic lmao

That is a game bug, not a DDOS.

Happens most frequently when a match ends.

Dude, read what was before that. I joined some guys party and that’s when I suddenly disconnected after having amazing internet for the entire day. Plus, other players on my team said they got DDosed by the same guy too and told us to report so. :man_shrugging:t4:

Overwatch makes hacking look so easy, I sware.

I Remember back in the day on Modern Warfare 2, people would use a program called Kane and Able to DDoS people offline. They mostly targeted streamers though.

absolutely DDoSing isn’t exclusive to pc or any other platform you can DDoS anything that’s connected to the internet simple as that

ok before you go into it i wanna add that DDoSing is a felony keep that in mind before accusing people

the thing is that… your data goes through a lot of places to reach its destination a lot of things can go wrong

that just means you hadn’t timed out for blizzard

ooh mysterious hehe

i’ve played games from bronze to high diamond these sort of one sided games happen everywhere

yes, absolutely! considering how easy it is to get your hands on a DDoS script and the fact that we know there were security issues with how voice chat works on ps4 it’s not that as hard as you think but again let me remind you that DDoSing a serious crime and 30 sr isn’t worth going to jail for as easy as it is there are not a lot of people that are willing to casually DDoS someone over virtual points

there are evidences of people doing it on overwatch too actually… i can dig it up for you but i don’t have the energy to do it

You get the IP of the server you play on and launch a DDOS attack.
It’s not that hard, but a bit expensive

Yes…
People have done it in the past, recently on WoW Classic servers no less.

It does affect Overwatch (and used to, Destiny 2) for a while until it was finally resolved.
