Can we Take the 2 off of Overwatch 2?

Ten reasons why …

Here are ten reasons why some people may feel “Overwatch 2” shouldn’t be called “Overwatch 2”:

  1. Minimal Gameplay Changes: Some argue that the core mechanics and feel of the game haven’t changed enough to warrant the title “Overwatch 2,” making it feel more like an update rather than a sequel.

  2. Shared Content with Overwatch 1: Much of the content, like maps and characters, is shared between Overwatch 1 and 2, making it seem like a continuation rather than a full-fledged new game.

  3. PvE Focus Disappointment: Originally, “Overwatch 2” was marketed with a heavy emphasis on PvE content, but many feel the PvE features were underwhelming or scaled back, which might not justify a new title.

  4. Graphic Similarities: The visual design and graphics are largely the same as the original game, with only minor tweaks, leading to criticism that it doesn’t look like a brand-new game.

  5. Hero Reworks vs. New Heroes: Many of the “new” changes are hero reworks rather than brand-new characters, so it feels more like Overwatch 1.5 instead of a true sequel.

  6. One Less Player Per Team: Moving from 6v6 to 5v5 is a major change, but some argue it’s a tweak rather than a new foundation for the game, thus not deserving a full sequel title.

  7. Free-to-Play Model: Shifting to a free-to-play model with a battle pass system feels more like a financial or business model change rather than the launch of an entirely new game.

  8. Continuation of Competitive Progress: Players retain progress, skins, and ranks from Overwatch 1, making it feel more like an expansion than a new game, where progression typically resets or significantly alters.

  9. Absence of Major Overhaul: Sequels often involve a significant overhaul of systems, mechanics, or storytelling, but Overwatch 2 doesn’t appear to radically reinvent itself compared to its predecessor.

  10. Perception of a Marketing Strategy: Many critics see the title “Overwatch 2” as more of a marketing tactic to rebrand and reignite interest in the franchise, rather than a true evolution deserving of a sequel label.

If they bring back 6v6 they better

The only thing that really changed is 5v5 no double shield.

If they take off the 2, how are they going to sell Overwatch 3? (which will be 2 skins, 1 hero and a new map and a brand new gamemode of 6v6)

No.

Overwatch was a goat game.

OW2 is the shambling zombie mess from Overwatch’s carcass.

Outside of streamers that live off promoting the game, and other officials from Blizzard, who is really saying “I’m playing Overwatch two” in real life, anyways… ?

The entire community knows this F2P version of Overwatch isn’t a real sequel… only a monetization update.

I don’t even pay attention to the “2” in the title anymore, as it’s become common knowledge Overwatch 2 has been canceled.

A lot of games are going to take the same approach. I figure Concord will be back with a “Revamped” or something similar. Why wouldn’t they? Losers keep buying and becoming victims of FOMO

“We’re redefining what it means to be a sequel.”

More like Overwatch took a Number 2 and went about its day.

“Redefining what it means to be a sequel” by creating one of the worst of all times. Quite the story, eh?

Anyway, Samito said something similar in one his videos. That it is easier to salvage Overwatch than Overwatch 2. And honestly, I agree.

Overwatch 2 will always be associated with failure.

I highly doubt they are bringing concord back, it appears Sony is cutting their losses because releasing 10 live service games by 2026 was too optimistic

I’ll have to find the leak again something about re-releasing it with the name “Freegunners” or something

OW2 remains the biggest joke in the entire industry because of the 2. And well all the unnecessary changes we didn’t actually need such as 5v5 or RQ or changing the monetization into a F2P scam.

Is this Overwatch 1.5 or Overwatch 0.5?

Literally OW 0,5. Here we only go backwards, do the wrong things year after year.

I used to say why have the “2”… but now I’ve changed my mind.
Having come back to play a few rounds, I’m not surprised but sad that people give these devs a full pass for doing absolutely nothing to make this game better or even fun at all again.
Overwatch 1 was fun, rewarding, and addictive to play. This… thing… is garbage, it has been since it’s launch, and despite all the empty words they like to say in interviews and “devs blogs”, they do nothing but sell skins as the matchmaking continues to be garbage, the balance is completely off, and there’s no rewarding factor to winning once you get on the right side of another steamroll game.

It’s still sad to see that this is what one of the greatest IPs ever in gaming now is. Overwatch used to be celebrated, and now it’s still a joke as these people gaslight you continually that it’s better now. It’s just not.

Keep the 2 forever, don’t diminish the name of the original and far superior Overwatch.

Can’t even call it a sequel when all we did when OW2 came out was update OW1 with a 5GB update

OP I give you permission to drop the 2

Everyone knows it. It’s some sort of bad running joke in most places.

I think ow2 was suppose to be the PvE version of the game, while overwatch 1 would stay as the PvP game.
