Can we stop pretending religion in OW is not a thing

Hey folks, we’re going to go ahead and lock this one before it turns too negative. - Forum Mod

Rein is the godfather of a man with like 10 kids, who is clearly catholic and who doesn’t believe in the use of contraception. Can we flesh out torb’s catholic faith a bit so as to give the character more depth. Or can we get an explicitly Christian character. We can have a gay character but not a Christian character? Or can we emphasize how soldier’s Christian faith inspired him to found overwatch?

Let’s have a Protestant hero too. Then lock em both in a room and wait.

This person has a valid point but I already knew the ignorant knee jerk negative replies would come flooding in. What’s the matter with wanting a certain type of hero?

There is religion, though?

Mercy and Reyes are both heavily based on abrahamic religious imagery; both are ‘angels.’

Sombra and Reyes both reference the Day of the Dead, a religious holiday practiced primarily by Catholics.

Symmetra is a Indian classical dancer, which takes a great deal of its technique from hindu iconography, and she wears a bindi, and has several voice lines that reference her belief in caste.

Ana and Phara both have a religious symbol tattooed on their face.

Hanzo is portrayed burning incense and praying/meditating before an altar in his short. Plus both Shimadas command a “spirit dragon.”

There’s an entire event dedicated to Christmas.

Zenyatta is literally a monk.

And don’t get me started on all the religious/mythological skins in the game.

Like what even makes you think Overwatch is trying to censor religion?

The only religion in Overwatch is Zenyatta.

Catholics were nailed to the posts hundreds of years back.

I am more interested to find out if Brigitte is really Torbs daughter since both he and his wife are blonde unless she died her hair.

We all know the turret is Torb’s real daughter, not Brigitte.

Explicit Christian character?
We have Mercy. She is literally an Angel. Sure, there are people like symmetra, zenyatta and Reaper but mercy is based off an angel, also having devil skins with a rosary on her forhead.

This made me laugh. where is there god now

I want a pagan, a Muslim, a Satanist, a pastafarian, a scientologist, a flat earther and a Buddhist.
We can have a gay character but we can’t have those?

It’s called genetics and they can be weird at times. There’s dominant and recessive traits. Perhaps Brigitte’s parents both had the recessive trait for auburn hair and Brigitte inherited it.

Its very obvious that Scientology is the ONLY religion in Overwatch. Xanu is the iris and he will deliver us to our planet, Puro-12.

+1, inclusion goes both ways.

Overwatch was founded by the UN in response to the Omnic crisis it had absolutely nothing to do with Christianity.

You’re free to believe what you want but PLEASE STOP trying to force those beliefs on others.

“Censoring” is too much to say. I would say they are avoiding direct mentions of religious beliefs, not censoring.

There was a voiceline for Junkrat, later removed, that was saying: “This place makes me want to become an atheist”.
