It was really bad over the weekend, to the point all I did during the last minute or so is run about randomly tossing the odd heal and running away.
No, because then quick play becomes comp lite and their casual portion of the player base dies.
There is an option to disable backfill.
Play ranked.
That doesn’t solve the issue tho, just creates another one. They need to be like pretty much every other game and actually have leaver penalties. With less people leaving there will be less backfill.
Play the sanity destroying game mode where everyone collectively leaves with 2 Iq* then yes I agree
Just make leavers HAVE to win a backfill before they are allowed back into society
First game today I backfilled into the Defending team on a payload map in the final stage and we won.
You can’t do anything if you backfill just as the game ends. However, when you have time to get into the fight and make a difference, it is only a lost game if you think it is.
No, you dont understand, for some nubelous reason it works for every other game on the market but wont for OW.
Backfill is the symptom. Quitters are the problem. Until Overwatch does something about them (quitter’s queue seems like the easiest solution), backfill is a way of life.
And kill the reason a lot of people got into OW in the first place.
OW casual and arcade being a casual non commitment is a huge selling point to a lot of newer players.
People log in to quit a bunch of games? The game can still be casual with leaver penalties.
The issue isn’t leaving every once in a while, the problems is players who leave like half their games.
I mean if pushbot were removed I think everyone would celebrate

Yes, an xp penalty. That’s it. If they didn’t buy the bpass many won’t care at all, and if they already completed it then the penalty doesn’t exist. The existing penalty is a joke for actually stopping people from quitting. There is a reason like every other pvp games have time penalties in non ranked modes when people leave too often.
It doesn’t need to kick in after the first quit, and can ramp up in time. But something else has been needed for years if they want to reduce the amount of backfill and quitters. But for all we know blizz has no issue with the amount there are.
Remove rounds from control maps and backfilling goes down by a large percentage. I dare you to try this experiment Blizzard. Or are you too cowardly to admit I’m right?
And there’s a reason why OW has a thriving casual player base instead of a super competitive player base like in games with strict afk penalties.
I’m sorry but the “drop in drop out” sort of style is literally amazing. Compared to being locked into comp lite games where you can be playing against cheaters, playing with toxic trolling stacks, stacks, etc., OW Casual and arcade modes are breaths of fresh air.
The reason other games don’t do it is because they want to streamline their casual → comp → eSports pipeline and have everything be exactly the same. This creates incredibly toxic environments.
Also, other genres, like MOBAs or BRs you literally can’t backfill games. There’s no logistical way.
If they added a comp lite mode that was just comp without the SR then sure, be strict in those modes. But quick play and arcade needs to be loose for it to work as a casual mode
I want them to ADD backfill to deathmatch or at least heavily punish leavers there. It’s not fun having the match go from a fast 8-player brawl to a slow 4-player hide and seek.
