I used to love level borders, they were so pretty and I was really proud to work through the tiers and I remember being excited about reaching a new one.
I understand they got rid of it due to toxicity but should we really remove an entire feature of the game just for toxicity?
That’s what reports are for.
And if you really don’t want to add them back publically, can we have the option to have them on for only yourself and make it visible?
Because I just miss them.
I just hate how every time I open my profile, I’m forced to look at my own incomplete border:
70 is just not a satisfying number to leave it at, and not having any stars there either is pretty lame. Like, either let me keep leveling it up, or let me put it away, please.
At least yours is pretty. I played so casually i barely reached gold 1 on my border XD
They could let us level those up in our profiles, even if no one else will ever see them apart from ourselves.

They’ve recently expanded the number of options in the streamer protection section and there are now separate options for almost every individual thing you can think of, including hiding progression level. I think that they could return the borders now, maybe integrate them with the current somewhat lackluster progression system, and those of us who really disliked having them visible in the past can now hide them.
On the other hand, it just occured to me that maybe they could just iterate on the border system. Our OW1 borders are a kind of a badge we earned with our time in that version of the game. I think that it’s cool if they stay as a sort of a time capsule. They can take the new progression system and add a new border progression element to it, hopefully one that’s easy on the eye.
They could do so much with it!
Achievements, hours on heroes, mythics… They could have had something cool, but instead, they went with something people don’t use. When was the last time you saw someone use a souvenir?

I miss em too. I remember the day when i finally made it to silver. That was a very exciting time!
I feel like Drive sigs are the new portrait decór. I just wish you could earn them via QP experience progression…
with the mercy mythic I wouldnt be surprised if they’re going to start rolling out more UI customisation. I definitely believe they should never have removed level borders in the first place but maybe they’re gonna start doing more in that regard? Idk, just another of those things that makes it seem like blizzard are trying to “win us back” by giving us things we already used to have after taking them away
First of: Yes. Second: It’s not gone. You still see your old level in the profile and now you have new levels with the progression. In fact, you have two: one for your overall level, that shows up during the victory team pose and your hero frame, that shows up during PotG (but this one is bugged and counts the level of the character you ended the game with, and not the one one you got PotG with).
Like I said, it’s still there in your profile, all the time. I think you can even adjust what others see if you set profile public, like progression levels, ranks, and playtime (but I may be wrong on this).
But you want to know the actual reason borders physically can’t work anymore? The scoreboard. OW1 was designed with these fancy borders in mind, so everyone had a big spot on the tab screen where you could fit a big shiny graphic. Then people claimed they sooo wanted a scoreboard, so they finally got it and now there’s no room fit any sparkly frames. The scoreboard already looks weird when it’s 6v6, cause they’ve designed with 5v5 in mind. In short, to have the borders back you’d need to get rid of scoreboard, otherwise the only ways is just for you to see them in your own profile, which you already can.

Actually is was to reduce “toxicity” people got their fefe’s hurts when they got made fun of because they had diamond borders in low ranks. Like it matters…

And it is gone, the feature of public levels during matches is gone.
It was because of toxicity, they could add it back so only u could see it if they dont want to do it publically again.
Maybe its like that saying: Distance makes the hear yearn.
I would love more progression for those of us who GRIND the game in general.
Would love prestiges and mythical items only those who grind can get.
I bet they would give some crappy excuse like “oh, OW2 engine dont support, we would have to readjust everything and thats not our focus right now”

Can’t argue with that. I think the whole profile ui could use some work in general. Make it more customizable.
Especially regarding the open/hidden question. Right now the option is basically show nothing or show all your history going back years. Why? Make it like any other social media page. Let people choose if they want to show their borders, game time, their rank in competetive capture the flag years ago etc. And to who, everyone, limited to friends, completely open to starred friends and so on. Just more options
