Soldier is weak, especially in higher elos.
His “core/base” dmg needs to be high since his ultimate is - if you can play him right and aim well - basically a nerf.
Yes, you can not miss but you can not headshot either …
They are quite in a well balanced spot rn. They are strong, yet allow Pharah (+ Mercy) to be viable as well - which means if you are a good enough hitscan you can deal with them and if you suck at hitscan then you do not get any value out of them.
They are currently in a very good spot! Soldier has always been the “bad” and “basic” hitscan.
He can run - great.
And he can shoot - over time damage - and no sudden bursts like Ashe or McCree can. He has no real mobility during a fight or a 1vs1 - unlike the other two or Widowmaker (or any other Hitscan like hero).
That’s the thing… he’s not though. You never see him, simply based on the fact that EVERY other hitscan is busted beyond belief and there’s no reason to run him. That’s not a soldier being weak issue, that’s a cree, ashe, and widow being too strong problem.
“Well balanced spot” as in they are still BY FAR the best DPS in the game.
But that’s kind of what makes him… him? He has rat mobility so he can dodge and control highground easily, flank and get away easily, and do things none of the other hitscan can do.
Him not having burst damage and constant damage instead is what makes him significantly easier to aim with and also allows him to pump out constant damage. The guy is practically a tank melter now.
Again, soldier is fine.
He doesn’t need buffs, the other hitscans just need nerfs. (Along with pharah and echo)
Really wish people would realize how easily soldier will be able to melt people with his old damage back, along with his recoil change where he never has to burst fire because no more spread management.
There’s literally no reason to buff soldier when a lot of these issues would be addressed if they simply nerfed burst damage hitscans and pharah echo.
I would suggest to remove the recoil and nerf his damage further if needed. Other better ranged hitscan heroes play classic arena FPS with no spread or hard recoil against flying/blinking enemies, but S76 alone plays CoD or military crap? That’s just ridiculous.
The last patch just looks like they try taking some of the weirder request of the community and try it out.
I think like you that Soldier is really balanced… The problem with him is mostly amount of counters he has.
Shields and healing are 2 of the worst things Soldier can fight against.
And yet these 2 get so much focus in the current game.
Soldier:76 damage is very high but consistent. He needs a protected environment to allow him to put consistent pressure on enemies that can’t really do much against his consistent damage.
Anything that is weak to tracking (Lucio,Pharah etc…) or lack the mobility and protection (Roadhog,Zarya) is a good match up for Soldier.
That just creates an awkward situation very similar to Genji btw where the hero can’t really join any meta. He needs what he’s weak to and strong on what the meta denies really well.
He’s strong on some dive heroes and some poke heroes but require the protection he himself is weak to.
If we want Soldier to be strong, we just need a bit more protections than what we have now… Something a bit less oppressive for hit scans but a bit more oppressive to burst, that he can use in order to take advantage of his consistent damage.
Armor doesn’t help the hero a lot either…
but focusing more on utilities for support can help a lot considering its weaknesses to healing due to his low damage per pallet.
Yeah and he was nerfed because (in the devs words) he was too much of a must-pick - in a triple-Tank meta. And he’s been buffed in other parts of his kit since then.
Soldier 76 is basically the poster-boy for Overwatch powercreep at this point.
This guy is just mad because he can’t kill a soldier on doomfist…somehow don’t know how that is possible frankly.
Soldier is trash dude. So much so that a lot of the times (well almost all of the time) I find it easier to just play reaper pharah and I have 20 times the time on soldier than those two.
With 20 dmg yes soldier will be able to kill somethings sometimes…hes a dps and should have been able to do that in teh first place.
Soldier is currently terrible at controling hg and can be totally bullied, and now can be even more bullied tbh with the lower healstation output. He is the worst counter to pharah even though he is designed as such. The hero is COMPLETE trash man. Just try playing him in diamond+. You need really good aim to do anything, and on lots of maps you can do nothing even with world class aim.
You’re absolutely correct he’s really quite good besides his ult and is just outclassed by a couple of hitscans with powerful utility. A better idea would be to just buff his damage when ulting so it isn’t completely weaker than just M1ing something anyway. And even then just by a couple of points of damage.
The problem with what you are saying is that burst is better against protections instead of sustain dmg. This is why widdow was playing in GOATS triple tank etc (sometimes), because you burst through the protections healing etc, or just wait until sheild is dropped.
I guess though sustain dmg is better at breaking sheild. Boring, and I wouldn’t do that on soldier, better to do that on projectile.
Huh? Widow was not played in goats. Nor was she played in triple tank if you mean back in s3 and s4 when soldier was top dps. I mean some ppl picked her, just like every hero. But she was far from a good choice, especially in goats.
Either way. Widow was not a good pick into goats. No dps really was. Sombra and pharah has some success, as emp was great, and most goats heroes couldn’t do much vs pharah. So they just rolled over the other 4 players and ignored her for the most part.
