Can we just talk about how Orisas Ult is censored on the forums?

Nobody, literally nobody refers to it as supercharger.
Having to write B(o)ngo every time you talk about that damn thing is just annoying.
In general censoring on the forums is just in a ridiculous state, does more harm than good.

The last time I checked, the word that means both “donkey” and “butt” was censored, too. However, stuff like this is A-okay, and even used by characters in-game. It’s very inconsistent.

same with flag system. people are abusing it as they want and yet, some harmless words are censored

fun facts about ow forums censorship:

you can’t write Junkrat’s full name.

you can’t write h(e)tero, yes, i’m deadly serious

how about widowmaker’s baiser though.

I think there’s a substantial difference between a fictional character whose actor was directed to use specific words in a specific environment, and letting anyone on an internet web forum for a video game have free access to those same words however they please. I think anyway.

As for the thread, uh I dunno about anyone else but, I always refer to it as Supercharger. It’s just… Supercharger. That’s what it is. And it doesn’t really kill anyone, I don’t think anyway, to just… type that out, or know what the actual name of the ability is in the first place, esp. if they intend on… you know, discussing the ability. I understand lingo develops and whatnot but it isn’t exactly breaking anyone’s fingers to type out S u p e r c h a r g e r.

To be fair I can see how that happens:

  1. Someone writes the counterpart to that word.
  2. Some ultra rightwing mentally deranged person takes offense, contacts their lawyer.
  3. Lawyer finds some obscure loophole via which this is … I dunno, discrimination against the stupid or something. In any case it’d hold in a court.
  4. Blizzard lawyer picks it up, contacts the web team to add it to the word filter.
  5. Blizzard lawyer calls right away again and says that due to legal reasons the counterpart needs to be blocked, too.

I can totally see that happen in some jurisdictions.

That is true. The most common short hand for it I heard is ‘drums’, in any case.

what’s easier to write?

immortality field or lamp?

imagine if a word lamp was censored?

it’s just unnecesarry waste of time

If it’s okay to use “wanker” on the forums but not the synonym for “donkey”, their policy is weirdly inconsistent. If it’s not okay to use “wanker” on the forums, then it feels like a weird double-standard on their part. :woman_shrugging:

An unnecessary waste of .3 seconds. Sorry for the burden.

Well, at least we still can say “white man”, unlike in a certain EA title.

H(e)tero

Omg, you’re right. I tried to post it without brackets because I didn’t believe you. Wow! That’s pathetic. Can we also ban “LGBTQ” as well? At least doing that will stop new topics asking for more representation from being created.

(And before anyone gets pissy at me, im LGBTQ. It’s just that some of us have a personality that isn’t solely defined by who we like to bang)

Ok, I think I know why this is.

I just tested it, and this particular word is censored. It’s the word for…"Occasionally-Illegal-Plant-Smoking-Vase", if you get what I mean. I don’t think the moderators want anything that alludes to drug usage on the forums. Even if the Orisa-related word in question doesn’t, they may forbid it simply because it would be a go-to word to bypass the censor.

Are you kidding? That’s ridiculous…In no way is it even a bad word! So we can say “sex”, but that word…oh, that word is off limits… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Baiser just means a kiss?
It can also mean to do the act that give babies but the only time she says it is in “Le baiser de la veuve” or Widow’s kiss (It’s the name of her weapon)

And people wonder why I stay a good solid mile or more away from our more ‘politically active’ members of the ‘community.’

(I put community in quotes because lemme tell you, there’s nothing more catty than a room chock full of gay men)

On topic though, I’m…thoroughly confused why b(o)ngo is censored. The others I can see (even if the logic is stupid) but that?

Que?

Baiser means “to kiss”. It does act as a slang term for sexual intercourse, but people in other languages wouldnt know the slang.

I would never stoop to relying on a lawyer. If we’ve got a problem, the only possible resolution involves you, me, and ten paces. :point_right: :boom:
