Can we get the option to disable skins, pls?

Title. A much needed addition, especially for comp. Idc about how minor the advantage is, but some skins make the hero look a lot different and change the voice lines too much (looking at you gridironhardt)

I cant say i’d use this a whole lot, but it could be a cool addition…

I wouldn’t use it, but I am surprised this is not already an option.

Way too complicated to add.

How so? I dont think it would be

Some people will have it on, some people won’t. The game files might get confused over special skin items and corrupt that skin. It might deform the hero or make it so that piece of that skin is missing a texture.

Take Winston’s new skin for example. The game might get confused over his horns so they might still show up on the person’s (that turned skins off) screen, but as a missing or altered texture.

no. why even have skins in the game then?

Because most people won’t turn them off.

But I think the option to, is a fine thing.

No.

But it kills the whole point and it is not like the skins gives a lot of advantage either.

For crying out loud, most ppl aren’t even trying to win in comp. That is much more of a problem than their bad fashion taste.

The point is that it is fun, which is good. But, in the open, they ban using skins because you can get advantages out of them.

People who want to, should be able to turn them off, and people who enjoy seeing skins, should leave it on.

What do YOU care that a person in the game has skins turned off?

You’ll still get to see them.

To show off? If I wanted it just for me, I woudl be playing singleplayer game.

You can still show off, most people (99%) will have it turned on.

For someone practising for the open, I can see the use of turning it off.

I wouldn’t, but I can see people should be able to. Voice lines too. - which would be more popular to turn off.

Then what is even the point of having it then? Also we can never be sure.

It… doesn’t work like that…

This feature already exists and works fine in custom games.

Maybe i wouldn’t use, but why not.

The idea is good in theory, but honestly incredibly difficult to code and possibly the cause of bugs, they’ve already been detailed (such as missing textures) or other things. It’s just weird and would visually wreck the already unoptimised game.

Gridironhardt gave Reinhardt players distinct advantages for a significant amount of time because of how badly his ultimate voiceline was recorded.

Some skins might have colors or designs that people with impairments have trouble with.

Some skins have deceptive visuals or even distracting visuals.

Most (I want to say all, but won’t) tournaments completely disable skins because they can and do impact gameplay. It’s usually not by a huge amount, it’s not like everyone should use skin x to climb. The mechanics to disable skins already exist in the game though, I don’t see why it isn’t available as a preference.

It’s not though. The server tells your client what skin to load for a given character, and your client loads it. If you set your preference to disable custom skins, the server tells your client to load vanilla skins for all characters. The feature already exists and works fine. Every tournament client in the OWL uses it. (I don’t mean they use it as an account based preference - I mean disabling skins as a whole)

https://youtu.be/zGIZnAEQ4G4?t=34 watch that spot of the video on 0.5 speed, then compare the ult voice line to the default skin of rein, and tell me it doesn’t have an advantage.

And it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t give a big advantage, if it still gives an advantage. Competitive play, is supposed to be competitive, even if by choice.
