Can we get REAL rewards for ranking up, please?

What is even going on here?

Why would we leave?

What do the skins have to do with how the game plays?

WHAT IS THIS AND WHY IS IT A THING.

We’re not talking about gameplay! What do you people not understand? Saying “You don’t need skins to play the game” has nothing to do with this thread… sure we Rank up to be let down by Lootboxes which is playing the game but ranking up basically has no reward because of it.

The basic concept, apparently.

So, you want… what? A rank to just hand you an item you don’t have yet? Is that the gist of it?

Meanwhile, the other guy is definitely saying that people wouldn’t play this game without vanity items.

No, I want ranking up to give me a small reward that I can build up to get something that I might want, and right now, earning 20 Lootboxes and getting nothing but Sprays and 1 Player Icon and 2 Recolor skins out of all of that is NOT a reward at all! Only 2 of the Lootboxes I earned gave me 0.01% of something useful, 175 coins, out of all those Lootboxes for all the ranking up. The system is so screwed up.

Like I said, it’s like working your butt off at a grocery store all week only to get payed with $1.00 and a half bitten stick of gum. WHOA WHOA CALM DOWN don’t take that too literally, its just a comparison of what being rewarded in this game feels like, and it sucks.

To be honest, this is what I love about this game. The fact that the difference of a lvl 700 and a lvl 10 is only a bunch of cosmetics, all equal. Skill is a thing you gather though.

No, it isnt.

Its like relaxing, watching TV, and being expected to pocket 25 cents an hour for sitting on your butt, paid for by the Producer of the show you are watching.

Once again, you’re taking this too literally.

Let’s pretend that grinding for wins to rank up is the same as stocking shelfs at a grocery store, because remember, it’s just a comparison of what the reward feels like.

No, I get your point. You want guaranteed drops of stuff you actually want (currency or otherwise) every time you level up.

You then compared it to working at a grocery store (which is not fun for most people), and getting paid pennies for it, which would definitely not be fair compensation for your time.

I’m not taking the comparison too seriously; all I’m saying is that the comparison doesn’t work. There’s an argument to be had about whether or not a loot box system is healthy for or respectful of the players (in OW or any game), but getting fairly compensated for work is not relevant to that discussion.

Overwatch is not a job (unless you’re pro), and even the coolest most legendary drops don’t have monetary value. It should be something you play because you like playing it, or in other words, because it’s innately rewarding. None of us are owed specific rewards for spending a lot of time playing the thing that we bought because we wanted to play it.

Free loot can make for a fun incentive, but if that’s the only thing that makes the game feel worth playing, it may be time to move on to something else.

When you get as old as some of us (five stars and above) you’ll have nearly everything from your casual level ups, and then all you get is duplicates. When events come out though, oh boy, you unlock most of the content VERY quickly.

Enjoy your constant flow of content, you youngin. It doesn’t last forever.

But on a pettier note: If you’re here for the cosmetics rather than the fun of a video game, what are you even doing? Go shopping or something. Cosmetics are basically brownie points in games.

Their aren’t enough achievements in OverWatch if you ask me.

At leasts for an Achievement you can get something better than if you simply leveled up.

Seems like you finally do but you’re still using terms that are too logical to back up your statement as to “we don’t need skins, it’s a free game meant for fun, just enjoy the horrible loot that you’re getting for free and lets keep calling it a reward.”

Yes, you are.

Seems like you are taking it quite too literally, it’s called a figure of speech.

No, because your premise is flawed.

If you need to be ‘rewarded’ for playing a game, then that game is not worth playing.

I categorically deny that Achievements, Skins, and Sprays, are worth playing a game for. They are a bonus.

The only exceptions I can think of, are the old WoW titles, for World/Server firsts, but that was more for the prestige of it.

How does ‘Or just play the game, that’s your reward???’ not make sense? It makes perfect sense. The fact that Overwatch even exists and is as fun as it is is the reward. Being able to play it with friends and stuff is the reward.

I mean, we can be happy to get a free lootbox everytime we level up, right? Or that the game is pretty much based on free grind for cosmetics so long we don’t decide to buy stuff willingly?

I get your point though. It’s frustrating to grind for loot, especially if the matches aren’t working that well and are more frustrating than anything else while the reward is… mildly enjoyable. However, this is not a healthy mindset for any game. You shouldn’t primarily be playing Overwatch just because of the cosmetics. They sure add to it but what does that give you at the end of the day? You finally can show off that skin everybody else has or will have at some point. So what? I think the far more important part is how you PLAY the game and if you still enjoy it at its base core.

The only suggestion I’d make, to somehow make ranking up more enjoyable aside from lootboxes, is to give a special something at each 100th level. A golden lootbox maybe, or credits. But, to me personally, what we get ( for free mind you ) is already enough.

Maybe it’s too annoying when a thing you need don’t drop from lootbox, but once it drops, you are like “Woah, finally! I’ve got it!!!”. Just like me today, when i’ve got
needed legendary skin for Mercy

I play the game for fun. Ranking up is just inevitable. i get lootboxes. if i get something new Awesome. If not, no big deal.

I don’t need to be rewarded for investing my time. the escape i get from gaming is my reward.

I came to Overwatch for the experience, the pretty cosmetics are just extra

All I get is just endless duplicates, so I do get money for ranking up I guess.

The analogy misses the basic fact that a grindy job doesn’t typically reward you with enough money to immediately buy a nice car. If you want a Bentley from a grocery store job, you’re gonna have to do a crapload of saving and working overtime to eventually get it.

The leveling system basically cushions you for future content the more you play, because eventually the money drops and increasing duplicates means you’re going to have an easier time gaining and dropping the dough for that awesome new event skin than someone newer entering an ever-expanding pool of items the RNG has to run through.

Ironically, it is much closer to a reasonably rewarding meritocracy than real life. The harder you work and the more loyal you are to the game, the more you’ll actually be set for the long haul. I’ve only been playing for a year and the stress I had from the first Summer Games event where I only had 2k saved up and thus needed a random drop in my favor to get both Selacão and Striker without having to wait another year is gone. Capoeira dropped? Bought it. Equalizer? Bought it. Jazzy? Will buy it, and if by some miracle Lucio gets a new skin, I’ll buy that trick too.

EDIT: A MIRACLE HAS HAPPENED. HALLELUJAH.

The honest reward from the current system is security.
