Can we get more "Experimentive" Experiment Cards

Lately the Experiment card I feel has been very lackluster in use. Originally it was to allow players to see what the Overwatch team are testing. While it still can be used for that, these days it’s mostly uninteresting and ineffective balance changes.

What do I mean by ineffective? Here’s an example.

Widowmaker recently received nerfs. What are these nerfs? It mostly boils down to not being able to 1 Hit kill players from across the other side of the map, and 3 less shots when aiming through scope. Otherwise she’s still just as effective as before.

How about Ashe? 3 Less ammo and 5 less damage per aimed shot. Sure maybe she doesn’t quite reach the easy 1 Hit kill threshold with Mercy. Be she’s still probably one of the best damage hero’s with reliable damage.

My philosophy is if you’re going to buff a character: BUFF them.
If you’re going to nerf a character: NERF them.
Make changes feel more impact to create new variety in the meta. Let less used hero’s shine by making them better.

Like let’s change the health values of some heroes. From my understanding. 200 Health is some magic number Blizzard wants to stand by with most it’s cast. Why? For consistency? Let’s make some hero’s health values different and I’ll explain why?

Soldier 76: Buff Health to 250. He’s a super soldier yet he can’t take an extra hit? Soldier struggles right now because I assume his damage isn’t as consistent to other hitscans. So why not buff his health and make him a more sustainable DPS. Make him survive longer in fights with a steady income of damage. If 250 seems too high then why not 225?

Widowmaker and Ashe: Nerf Health to 175. Sniper class characters in most other shooters usually have less health than other characters due to their pick-off potential. 150 would be too low since they don’t have the means like Tracer to avoid damage.

My point being lets see some variety in these Experimental Cards. Give some heroes a chance and give others a break. Enough with these slap on the wrist nerfs and questionable buffs.

not sure about how well your changes would work, but im all for more drastic experiments

That’s the whole point of an experiment. To find out whether certain changes would work or not. I wish we could get more of those.

I agree, we seem to have gone from the 1-3-2, experiments which were amazing and changed the makeup of the game. Now they are, lets test widow with less ammo…like…not even worth my time to test.

Honestly it’s because of Overwatch 2’s development that’s making Overwatch 1 kinda lame right now. We need more interesting balancing changes to keep the game fresh.

we get them whenever they’re ready, they didn’t add it for amusement or to keep the game fresh. they added it so when they have a gameplay addition they’re legitimately on the fence about and seriously consider a possibility, we can try it

it’s probably the case that many things that you might want to try on the experimental just to “see how it goes” they may have tried internally and found it not even worth considering. the reason you don’t see more big experiments like 1-3-2 is because those are gigantic and controversial changes and it’s not likely they’re tossing those around and working on them so often that they’ve got a few of them to they seriously consider worth adding

Still can’t go wrong at least letting people try more creative stuff.

I don’t know why everyone thinks that’s what that change did, its not. It made her a 4 shot on 250 hp targets. It has no effect on her performance damage boosted.

Ashe and widow just need one change for both. Widow has too much mobility so change hook, you can even let people cancel hook. Ashe gets too much ult from dynamite, so lower the ult charge she gets from it. Thats literally all you need

Blizzard gave buffs to Genji and Hog and people were like:" Overpowered heroes".
Blizzard nerf Genji and Hog: “Useless heroes”

well we did with the moira changes and literally everyone just started insulting blizzard about being trash at balancing and they should just quit even though what they wanted was more experimentative experimentals.

Yes to more wild experiments on the exc

No

This doesn’t even solve his problems.

yes, 76 has two main problems outside of snipers being objectively better in every way

  1. Reload simulator. With how much time you spend reloading, if we’re not giving him Bastion’s clip of 35 then can we at least reload while sprinting???

  2. Bloom + Fall-off. I get why he has them, but combined they make him too unreliable at long ranges. I think they should either slightly reduce his max spread or slow down his bloom.

100%

I kind of wanted 170 so Ashe could clap Widow equally but I guess we’d need 160 now and it’s not like Blizz is big on reverts. Oh well.

If I had to pitch a truly experimental change, NERF ANTI NADE and revert the pointless 5 health & 1 second off sleep nerfs she got. All it ended up doing was hurting console consistency anyways.

I don’t even play it but from what I see it is more like live ptr than anything and everything that goes there gets released anyway.

Please no. They’ve already gutted Orisa, Sigma, D.va and Roadhog, I want at least a FEW tanks to viable.

I dunno, I still think a health buff would be nice for Soldier 76.

Cries in baby dva :frowning:

Well the thing is you don’t want to DVA to be de-mech’d. She’s supposed to be vulnerable.

You forgot her tho
How could you D:

I mean I think a health buff for everyone would be nice.

But that doesn’t make the buff any more necessary than it is. In this case, the buff is 100% unnecessary.

At best, the hero will either immediately trade power for the buff, get nerfed down the road, or be just as bad with the buff but ignored because ”didn’t they just buff xyz?

It’s most likely the former or latest for 76.

Soldier doesn’t struggle currently, actually. He’s perfectly fine. People just don’t pick him because they’re conditioned not to.
