Can we get one? Ijs it would be nice to be able watch them offline, share with friends, analyze them to improve gameplay. That idea pretty much should’ve been implemented since part 1.
Replays are not videos. They are just bunch of data points that plays in specific order. They require the game engine to work, which means you need to have the entire game installed to watch them.
This is also why you can’t keep them after a patch because the game data is different.
Yeah, but if you can convert them to videos like most games with that feature can do…it’d be possible. I don’t need all the crazy angles or nothing just straight up watching it without playing is enough.
I have a bunch of Saved Highlights from Overwatch 1, which must just be Recorded Videos by now. I don’t see why we can’t get a Recorded Game from the Players’ PoVs. Of course, you would’t be able to do the whole Navigation thing.
@OP I’ve been using boosteroid and it works great for exactly this purpose!
I know it might not be quite optimal but this is the best way to watch a replay on your phone!
It would be awesome if there’s a mobile app just for replay. Lets be honest though, if it can do replay, than it already has all the functionality to play the game on mobile, thus it is only a matter of time we can play OW2 on mobile phone.
Heh heh…
I’m living in the future my friend… I’m living in the future…
You mean cloud gaming services, or Shadow PC.
they can barely get the fire UI working again
what you think the chances are they could port OW to mobile phones
You still need to have the game installed so you can render the whole thing before it can even be converted to video.
Well can’t you Render it in-Game, then have a Video saved to your Account which you can view from an App on your Phone?
I guess you could just Screen-Record and Upload it to YouTube, but I mean a Blizzard-Endorsed Method.
You could do that manually and upload it to YouTube but I agree that would be better if this was automated but I don’t see them putting in the resources to do this but it would be amazing if they did!
You can just copy the video from the game folder into your phone and it will be the same.
keep in mind the replay is just bunch of values that are unusable without the game. it is like having only the numbers of a math equation without the actual equation.
Heck… If you play overwatch on Boosteroid, it has a built-in broadcast to YouTube function so you wouldn’t even need to upload anything you could just stream your gameplay and it would be immediately available to watch at any time afterwards…
The only way I can see it happen is if blizzard is offering cloud service to render the replay for you but it will still take time either way. Not to mention is going to be expensive.
Heh… Could be inclusive with Game Pass after the acquisition… Seeing as Microsoft has Xbox cloud gaming…
Boosteroid isn’t too expensive either…
