Hi guys, I love the Overwatch cinematics and trailers, honor and Glory is absolutely my favorite.
TLDR: YouTube is very low quality. I would LOVE to have the Overwatch trailers in the higher quality but can’t find them anywhere.
Long version:
The problem with YT is the very low bit rate and the compression artifacts. I can see blocking even in my 22" monitor and it looks terrible with a bigger TV.
Why does it matter? Well, when there’s people in my home (geeks, generally), I play trailers as background. It’s great marketing. A number of friends already bought games I “promoted” based on these trailers alone. One of them doesn’t even like shooters, but he loved the dragons cinematic so much he had to play it (yes, I’ve created a genji main).
I’m sure you gals and guys at Blizzard have higher quality version sitting in a server somewhere. Any chance you could upload them to a public link? Use a free service like 4Shared or something if you must, maybe send them to GamersRyde? They host that sort of stuff and right now they’re lacking Overwatch’s trailers. Doesn’t have to be a colossal lossless absurdity with 100 GiB size or anything, just something with a higher bitrate, like 5,10 or 15 Mbps instead of 1 Mbps that YT provides.
If the current trailers don’t exist anymore in a better version, please consider releasing the next videos on YT but also in higher quality versions (or make a TV series, ya know…).
If they don’t wish to spend the host themselves, there’s a myriad of free file hosting services, like 4shared, dropbox, google drive, etc.
Also, I’m sure Gamersyde would host them as well. They do so for other games when available (they have a 16GiB version of Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay, for instance).
We have 6k stills of the Zero Hour cinematic, but video is limited to YouTube’s trash 2.200kb/s. It’s decent quality for a phone, maybe even 22" PC monitor, but you put this up on a 46" TV and you’ll see more artifacts than in the Tomb Raider franchise.
Meanwhile, Blizzard’s gamespress site has a 1.9GiB version of Diablo IV cinematic that looks fantastic with 30.000 kb/s bit rate. Can’t we get a similar option for Overwatch’s cinematics? At the very least for Overwatch’s 2 since that’s the new release?
You’ve upload the Mercy sprays in 5120x5120, come on, just put the videos up, please.
Good morning everyone. I am here to say no progress has been made in this endeavour.
I’ve got a glorious 43Mb/s video of the Diablo IV announcement trailer but I’m still condemned to Dragons from YT with more blocks Lego Bastion.
I know there’s a video file somewhere with some proper quality, it doesn’t cost anything to make them available to those who want it, please let me download it.
Hey look what we got folks? An origin story for Sojourn, a great day for OW:
You know what would be nice? If we had all of those, or at least the latest ones, in high bitrate files available for download. YouTube still trash (also tip: you can get higher bitrate stream from YT if you put your upload with a resolution of 1440p or above, it’s worthy even if you have to upscale the content).
The Wasteland cinematic was release in 4k on YouTube:
THANK YOU!
That is a MASSIVE improvement over 1080p because of how YouTube works. Anything 1440p and above gets a different codec (vp9, I believe) and much better bitrate - the resolution itself doesn’t matter that much surprisingly.
Please, for my sanity’s sake, keep uploading to YouTube at resolutions 1440p and up. Annoyingly, the Junkerqueen Origin Story is just 1080p, the same blocky mess YT always makes of those videos.
Again, thank you for the 4k version of The Wasteland. However, who to I have to please to get some lossy high bitrate files? Heck, throw in a 40GiB lossless there, it would be heaven for me. The OW2 Press Center page still has only screenshots, icons, headshots and so on, very good stuff, high quality PNGs which I love, but nothing on videos.
Even the Diablo IV press page now only has YT links… I feel like an old man, sadly, watching things change and wishing for past times where I could download 2GiB version of those beautifully crafted cinematics instead of blocky messes from YT that undervalue so much hard work and talent.
Any updates on this? At least genesis was on 4K, but it’s sad to see all the other cinematics be butchered by YouTube’s compression. The overwatch 2 press center is still being updated, but no videos have been added.
