Can we get a role queue already?

The matchmaking in this game is trash, we all know this. Games are decided by whether or not the matchmaker has blessed you with the right teammates. So can we at least get to play the heroes we want? I have over an hour combined with both rein and orisa because some games no one will play shield tank. I hate these heroes, as there are incredibly boring and lul me to sleep. I especially hate when I play them and still get destroyed because of teammates who pick dps heroes they know jack about. There are other heroes sprinkled in there I don’t care much for in an effort to help the team win.

You should not have to choose between playing your favorite hero or taking a loss.

There’s another secret option than role select. Champion Pool Select. Where you queue with non-correlated people’s champion pools. But I can go with role select with forced meta and wait 20 minutes to play that sweet dps spot no worries. I’m with you bro f8ck the police

There have already been other threads explaining why we need role select. Blizzard doesn’t care what our opinions are even if we back them with factual information, they think the only opinion that matters is their own. That was the death of world of warcraft when they ignored their players about player vs player

Even if they do not consider role select: Why not simply creat lobbies where people can show their prefered picks. You can join the lobby in which your hero pool fits best and than you can all communicate before the match and if you are satisfied with the attitude and hero pools of each other start to search a match?

I mean the lobby for custom games is availible allready, so why not extend this feeature?

No. Role select is a bad idea.

It’s not good to lock players into specific hero pools or specific roles. It creates more toxicity and ruins the gameplay experience for those who just want to have fun.

Copy and past my answer to that X topics about the role queue

Here the problem i see with role queue :

fix meta at 2/2/2 who is sad form my point of view
When you are a group of two, how the role queue should work ? the same for group of 2,3,4 and 5.
Do a group of 6 have to follow the rule of role queue ?
If not that means you need to implement a different queue for group but what is the limit 6, 5 or less ? And by doing that how you manage the MM numerically. A group of five, you one more man to play but if all solo are in solo, they will never find a match
Role won’t prevent you to have an outmeta onetrick in you team or to have a bad player in this role. Some time it’s better to have 3 dps and 1 heal because your Dps aren’t preforming well.
it will increase the time queue
In game the role is rigid or soft (means you can take another role once the game start) ? If soft role is just a cosmetic.
Defence heroes are DPS or support ?
Sombra is a DPS or support ? same for Sym.
All those problem to solve just for ensure you to play your best heroe and climing with just one heroes ?
Clan/Guild/Community functionality are better option than role queue.

Be flex, speak with you teammate (social interaction), train outside of comp (heroes aim, osu, training zone, QM) and you will improve and may be clim.

For me the MM and the SR system are good (it’s working on SC2 and HOTS) but the main point is coming from solo queuing. The majority of complaint I see on this forum come from people who solo queuing. I see no complaint about 6 stacks.

I think the SR system should be fine if every player where little pony. May be we have to look at this problem from another angle and look at the solo queue problem.

I don’t wish a role queue or a solo queue because i don’t want to split the community for comp.
So the only solution i see according my trough is social functionality (clan/club option, lfg chat or interface, end match dashboard, match history like overtrack).

My global idea is to “force” the biggest part of the community to play in stack of 6 and leave the solo filling incomplete stack like today.

It’s a way to improve the quality of the community like in old mmo (DAOC, WOW vanilla) where you have look for a group by chatting and joining guild/group.

I don’t believe that automatic system to create group will reduce the global toxicity.

it actually removes a ton of toxicity. every dps would be playing with 2 people tanking that wanted to tank. they would be playing with 2 people that wanted to heal. no one would be mad at them for insta locking dps.

in the same vein, it lowers toxicity because people who feel forced to tank and heal have the choice to que for dps, and not feel forced to switch.

blizz already forces a 2-2-2 meta. they are doing everything they can to prevent next season from becoming triple tank. this is why they released brig early for testing. this is why mei and reaper are getting buffs. and they have said as much. they do not want anything other than 2-2-2.

You provided no reasons or facts with your argument, so your reason isn’t really a reason at all but more of an opinion

Wheres the blue post proving they want strict 2’s?

geoff just posted that a tank heavy meta was coming, they dont think triple tank is fun for most people, and that is why they are buffing mei and reaper.

I am unsure how you come to that conclusion from [quote=“GeoffGoodman, post:16, topic:39347, full:true”]
Cool thread. I always thought what would be cool is if Mei could freeze multiple people at once with her primary fire.

Oh wait a minute, I have the editor right here hmm…

Except this game relies on swapping as a major component of any successful game. You can’t swap if there are already 2 people tanking/healing. What if people don’t do their jobs? They get all the blame instead of the team having all the blame. People wouldn’t be able to swap.

It doesn’t work because metas change. Heroes change. Players change. It’s not a fair thing to keep putting players in positions where they are forced to play one thing while lengthening queue times for everyone.

Because every counter arugment ive ever seen or made on these kinds of posts gets responded to with hardly any reason or method. It’s like if a topic on role queue comes with too many comments saying it’s a bad idea, they delete it and make another.

I don’t have time to sit down and write out the list of things wrong with it. Other users have already done it. I can’t even copy and paste my reasons from other role-queue posts because they get deleted faster than a freshly hatched sea turtle.

They aren’t enforcing it. They just have already seen 3 tanks and they don’t think it is fun.

OW is built on flexing to fit the scenario. You can’t lock the playerbase down to a certain role. You can’t even classify them. There are so many subclasses you can’t even count them.
You have:

  • hitscan DPS
  • flex DPS
  • Projectile DPS
  • Beam-based DPS
  • Single target objective DPS
  • Defense DPS
  • Dive DPS
  • Flankers
  • Shield tanks
  • Damage Tanks
  • CC tanks
  • Healers
  • Shielders
  • Armorers
  • Point defenders/AOE control
  • Utility supports

Are we going to have the ability to choose which of these we want to play? Or are we just restricted to DPS/Tank/Support?

There’s too much going on here to warrent this being a good idea.

This wouldn’t solve the problem though?

Your team could still be filled with 6 DPS players, they just all play different heroes.

It’s not what they think.

He literally said more people complained about Triple Tank than Dive. It’s the community that’s made it clear it was unfun, not the devs.

Role Select:

Before quing you choose tank, dps or support. Upon entering the game, you can only pick the characters of the role you selected. The system will have 2/2/2 setup. If during the game players would like to switch when both players are in the character selection zone then they can both press a button on the character select screen to trade roles with one another, ex: X player was playing tank and Y player was playing dps. After both players hit the button to swap roles, X player is now the DPS role and Y player is now the Tank Role.

What about hybrids? What about different types of each class?

Locking players into specific roles isn’t a great idea. I want to play to have fun, not be locked into a role.

Why is this the best setup in all scenarios? Who says it’s the best in all scenarios?

That promotes waiting in spawn until someone dies, leaving the team crippled. And when the person doesn’t want to swap roles, they will probably get flamed or reported for poor teamwork.

You’re still not addressing hybrids or any “sub-classes” of heroes. Technically, everyone is a DPS. Technically anyone with CC is a support. Technically everyone with over 200 HP is a tank.

Just doesn’t add up.

If you want to play to have fun and not worry about winning then go play quickplay or arcade. Do you want to google what the definition of competitive or compete means? You’re supposed to try to win, not try to lose because i want to play symmetra 24/7. Not how it works.

Hybrids like? Sym? Sym should be banned from comp play so should torb because one tricks have shown that people dont want to play with them. Why do you think they’re putting in an avoid this player option? People dont want to play with a one trick torb or sym etc.

no one is saying its the best setup but at some point you have to have structure to this and without structure or defined roles there is chaos and we have been seeing chaos and complaints for what, 2 years now? The devs just need to put their foot down and come up with a role select that benefits the majority of players, not the 1-2% that cry that they want to play sym 24/7.

Not sure what rank you play at but usually when people are dead you have to regroup anyway so now you’re just getting desperate to try to shut the idea down

And your definition of hybrids makes no sense. No, there’s clear cut tanks and there are clear cut characters that only do damage that are not tanky. And there are clear cut characters who heal… stop trying to make things up

I have a hard time seeing that role select or solo/group queues will fix this game, especially now.

The problem that makes everyone want role select in the first place is teammates that either play terribly, or else deliberately play to lose (throwing, leaving, griefing, etc). In short, the toxicity of the player base is the main contributing factor leading to this game’s decline (irrespective of other new games coming out, which are also a factor, but not as much as internal toxicity).

Somebody always wants to one-trick a hero that’s just BAD for the current situation, or a hero that they don’t even know how to play. Adding a role select will not stop this. You see someone queuing up as a support, you think “Great I’ve got a healer” only to find out once the match starts that they’re a Symmetra one-trick, and will not be healing you at all. Or they role select defense, and you learn that they’re a one-trick Hanzo who can’t hit D.Va at point blank range. Or they end up being forced to role select a tank, because they’re the last to join, only they’re TERRIBLE with tanks, and no one else wants to change roles.

Whatever problems this game currently has as it stands, none of them are really fixed by role select. If toxicity is the real problem to the way people play, it is still going to be the problem if a role select is implemented. People can still throw, and de-rank, and smurf. None of this gets fixed with role-select.

As for solo/group queues, that’s not as bad of a suggestion, but it still splits the entire Overwatch community down the middle, leading to, presumable, wait times that are twice as long as they are now, particularly for the upper and lower ranks. And as the game starts to fade (which is arguably happening already), the wait times will only increase even more, probably making toxicity even worse.

Had a guy on one of my matches a couple days ago who kept saying in spawn, “Call me ‘Mommy’ or I’m throwing!” And then he did. WTF is wrong with people?! Do we need a pscyh evaluation before letting people play this game?

One thing it does that makes everyone happy is role select will allow everyone to play the role they want because they qued for it.

You speak of toxicity, and i’ve played the game enough to see constantly a lot of it starts at the character select screen and people fighting over roles.

Right it doesnt fix one tricking but blizzard is already putting the avoid this teammate button in so we can avoid people we dont want to play with

Symmetra is not a support, she’s a dps. Also, in my personal opinion her and torb should be banned from comp play anyway becasue of the one trick/trolling problem.
