Can we get a REGION LOCK?

My first time playing during the day time. I play on the NA server.

I can’t understand my teamates. Getting 1-2 non-english speakers every game really spoils the experience. Not to mention them having greater ping.

Does Blizz have a policy on region locking? Or is anyone free to jump around?

Where you at? Here in Canada the worst I get is the occasional Quebecois who flunked english class.

3/5ths of the NA servers aren’t even in NA geographically, and there’s a looot more non-English speakers in NA than people like to admit.

In Europe, we have Russian players who absolutely have to insist on writing and speaking Russian while (I assume they are) insulting us in their language, never going English spite all 5 others in the team not even understanding Russian.
The sad thing? This is like 95% of Russians I’ve played with, it’s not even an assumed stereotype… 5% who does bother to write and speak in English however, are respectable.

I’ve also met a bunch of players speaking Polish, Turkish, Spanish, French, but these players at least understood and tried to write / speak in English, no matter how good or bad they were in that language. I prefer caveman / Tarzan speech over a language I cannot understand.

Honestly though? I don’t want to blame these players, but rather I’d like to put some of the responsibility to Blizzard for not having enabled an option where you can queue with players that will only use English.

In a team based game like this, it’s very important to actually understand what’s being said.

Probably they were from the Brazilian server, probably the worst server in the entire game because is laggy ALL THE TIME. Hell even Roblox has better servers than the Brazilian server of Overwatch.

How about no ?
I’d like to be able to play with my friends from NA every now and then and I wouldn’t like to have some elitist jerk ruin my fun.

I’m sure the French, Russian or Spanish players feel the same way on EU, dealing with a lot of English speaking players. Because you know, not everyone speaks English, nor does everyone speak, French, Spanish, etc, so the language barrier is a two-way thing.

Why are we assuming English is the must-be-spoken language anyway? Just because we’re used to being around English-only speakers, doesn’t mean everyone is.

The only time I have ever gotten a non english speaker is when I play with my friend who is fluent in both english and french, meaning that they are technically a speaker of non-english.

But I have never had this problem no.

I don’t think that’s the point, english is still the most diffused language in the world, no matter where you go, if you are able to speak it people should be able to understand you and answer you back .
Even on the european servers it’s kinda rare to see people speaking in russian , italian , french or german…and when they do I usually ask them to communicate in english cause otherwise half of the team isn’t going to comprehend what they say.
The language barrier is a thing but even though english shouldn’t be a “must be spoken” language I would recommend people to learn using it just for the sake of understanding eachother and have more access to knowledge in general.

I play on EU and honestly I don’t have problems speaking with everyone, they all speak english when needed, sure sometimes you hear people talking in their language but most of the time it’s not important and has nothing to do with the game.

Maybe it’s because I’m at a “high” rank so the people I meet tryhard the game so they speak english.

English is pretty simple to learn, I mean feel free to try, who cares about grammar and stuff as long we understand you.

I play on EU as well and often play with Russian or French speakers - whether it’s obvious by their usernames, or they actively type or speak in their native language. You also don’t know someone’s native language just by their username. A lot of the Korean pros use English words for usernames which disguise the fact they’re not English speakers. So assuming half the team are English speakers is a little unfair since you don’t actually know until they speak or type in English (even then it may not be fluent).

Just play the game and stop caring about where people come from.

I know full well how many french and russian players we have and that I can not judge their nationality by their name…I also know that not all of them may be able to speak or understand english and infact I am not assuming that half of the team is composed by english speakers…but if I start talking in italian , our Ana starts talking in greek , our Hog in russian and our remaining members in french and spanish then I doubt we will be able to coordinate ourselves.
English is spoken worldwide instead, it is statistically proven to be the most diffused language so far ( altough not the most spoken ) as I already stated , refusing to learn it only limits your access to knowledge .

I don’t care where they come from. I care that that they’re raging in chat, clogging it up with an incomprehensible language. Then to add insult to injury, tell me, in very broken and hard to understand English, that they are a god genji but the ping is the reason he’s performing poorly.

Welcome to the internet and a lot of online games.

Real talk though, What about friends who live in Asia or Europe and want to play with their American friends? One of my friends lives in SEA, and we LOVE playing together as it’s one of the few games where we can actually play together. Yeah, she gets better Ping than me because one of Blizzard’s servers are APPARENTLY in SEA -even If she joins my party. Do I mind? No. I know that server traffic or “hops” can be wild and make no sense some times.

In short a region lock would PREVENT people and friends from playing with each other. Some people play solely with friends. If a region lock was put in place, people who exclusively played with international friends may stop, or other international players may not play as much if they can’t play with friends.

So no, let’s NOT have a region lock. Let’s keep things the way they are now. Let people chose what servers they want to play on and let’s let friends in other regions enjoy the game together. After all, isn’t that part of the goal of Multiplayer game? To play with friends and other players online?

i have only got non english speakers two games MAYBE

That would be super lame. Then I couldn’t play with my friends who are deployed, or my friends from other countries.

How do you even change region? Not like it matters for me because I’m an Aussie in the oceanic region and nearly everything is excluded for us… including but not limited to professional official competition…

That being said even most people who can speak English don’t say a word all game until you lose then every dickhead has something to say! Dunno, might win more if they actually talk… at this point I’ll take any friggen language because at least they’re talking…

On PC, when you’re in the launcher, there’s a spot that tells you what Region you’re connected to. You hit that and i gives you a few options as well as the option to play PTR

Not everyone captured by the american servers are native english speakers. Not including immigrants you also have the french speaking portions of canada and south america.

And if there is a region lock what happens to people like me? I live in europe but play with my best friend who is currently in america, and other people in Australia. Lots of people play across continents with friends

I’m a native english speaker, my ping isnt too bad in usa, and ive never had anyone complain that i’m clearly an eu player (British accent) in the american servers because i speak english
