Can we get a developer update

I feel like we deserve one. We haven’t had a developer update in 5 months and before that they would come inconsistently. It also doesn’t make sense how every time the developers say they will “stop being silent” and “give more updates” when that never happens. Please let us know:

Yeah, it wouldn’t hurt to give us a much needed update.

God, I almost forgot this game had once developer updates.

Don’t expect them to say anything that might look bad for the company/team image. It’ll be mostly PR nonsense with vague statements.

The problem with developer updates is that they are time-consuming to produce (more so since Blizzard started a work-from-home workplace environment). I think that is why we have been seeing increased communication directly from our Community Manager AndyB.

What if there’s nothing good to say?

The important thing is just that Dinoflask has new material to work with.

what? the last developer update was 3 minutes long

he has to sit in front of a camera and talk for maybe 30 minutes tops

plus maybe an hour for someone to write the script for that

the real reason they’re not producing dev updates is because they have nothing to talk about

(edit: whoops, wrong video, 3 minutes instead)

Those will never be the same without Jeff

I wonder how many marketing experts and lawyers have to go through it though.

This just sounds like a cop out.

I mean is a dev update going to set the game back another week?

I doubt it.

First off, I really do appreciate the increase in forum activity. Engaging with the community is one of the best ways to maintain interest in the game, and for the most part the team has done an awesome job with that.

That said, I don’t necessarily buy the argument that dev updates are too “time-consuming to produce.” We don’t need a story-by-story walkthrough of where everything is at; just a high-level overview of what’s being worked on, current challenges, upcoming goals. I’m assuming the team does internal demoes/updates, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to tweak those for a broader audience.

We just need something. For example:

  • 5v5 balancing is continuing to be a challenge, but it’s a good challenge because we’re working hard to make sure our new heroes fit in with the existing roster.
  • PvE is close to completion. We’re finishing up some bug fixes and waiting to get the last of our cinematics from our vendor. Can’t wait to show you more soon!
  • Testing Doomfist in the Tank role has been mostly successful. We’re continuing to tweak a few things, but this is looking like the direction we’ll take forward.

That’s it. Granted, I made it all up, but that took me roughly 5 minutes to type up. If we were to get this level of update every couple weeks, with a larger update quarterly, we could at least rest easy knowing progress is actually being made.

To be fair, we saw the bastion rework, sombra rework, a few maps, and have shown us tons of pro gameplay.

Funny how people still believe them after the first couple times they said that.

Yeah i believe the blizzconline cancellation was so they could 100% focus on ow2 too if i recall correctly.

No cause the devs are playing the silent game for a already failed project

Yeah do you want a dev update ? and hear about what excelity ?
ow1 is dead by the devs since Jeff said: “we gona go dark like forever” and then he even left.
