Somedays it feels like 50% of allchat is just people saying diff. I feel like it is the stupidiest fad and has quickly gotten old and overused, and honestly i cannot see how it adds positively to the experience.
Have some creativity and say something different, ffs! Every game people say the same thing. Blizzard already censored the words “ez gg” in a way that reflects the low maturity of the people who say it, i think they should add “diff” to the list of stupid words.
Just my 2 cents.

quite contrary. the text to speech program thats available under accessability options even recognizes the word diff and completes it to “difference”.

I agree. It’s boring low effort spam at this point. Just give it the gg ez treatment. I’m sure something will replace it in the long run anyways but it took a long time for diff to be as prominent today as gg ez was a year after launch.

It doesn’t, but it’s whatever. I’m more than happy that people will out themselves as children who I should block.
I just wish we got the old avoid system back. Where the other player was avoided as a whole rather than just as a teammate. It was also permanent. If I’m avoiding someone it’s because I don’t want to play with them again period, not just for a week.

you kids can try and censor any word you dont like but there will always be another word to replace it. Doesn’t even have to make sense which is why we got “Let’s Go Brandon”

I literally get called the hard R and you want the word “diff” censored you need to get a grip bro if the word diff bothers you on any level maybe you shouldn’t play an online game I think racial slurs and other derogatory comments should get the ggez treatment not diff Lmaoo.
…or, we could not constantly censor speech and people could learn to ignore it, especially when the phrase itself is benign…?

This is language in general. The moment any word is in the general pops lexicon it gets overused to the point that it becomes dated and stale.
Waiting for “cringe” to get played out but these smooth brain mopes keep using it to describe every thing they encounter in ordinary life.
Ignore it op, recognize what you’ve accurately described as a schlub with low maturity and should be ignored.
And 9 out of 10 the one saying diff was the one being hard carried, and everyone knows it.

Widow mains had hour+ long queues in higher elos because no one wanted to play against Widow if they could avoid it.
To me, when someone say “x diff”, I don’t see it as toxic but more of where that person see the weakest link in the game. At least from my experience, whenever someones goes “x diff” incorrectly, there’s always a responses if the person is wrong and get called out on it. If they are correct, it has a response of silence.
A large time whenever I am on support and my tank goes “heal diff”, a large of the time, the enemy calls out the tank is wrong and they were at fault or the healing was fine and our team was less coordinated. Some games, I do know I played poorly as support and failed my suzu in time constantly, I am fully aware and willing to take the blame or heal diff comment.
