Can we bring the Old Voice Actors for Overwatch Classic?

Overwatch classic looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, and it will definitely bring back a lot of nostalgia. But if I can only one request-

Can we please bring the old voice actors back, just from his gamemode/update?

I believe the English cast still remains the same, but for other languages, that unfortunately isn’t the case, for one reason or another.

Christiane Louise, the voice of Mercy, a very beloved voice actress in Brazil, passed away in 2021. Roberto Draghetti, the Italian voice of Soldier 76, prolific voice actor, left us in 2020.

I think those two are the stories the community is most familiar with. But there are many more cases. While I definitely understand why many of these talents had to be replaced, it’s undeniable that their contributions left a mark on the memory of many players.

And I think now would be an amazing opportunity to pay homage to these professionals and let players REALLY experience how it was to play Overwatch back in the day.

hey, i know who you’re talking about, I have an audio blog about overwatch. i’d like to make some very important clarifications about old voices: sometimes some voice lines are no longer “legally” usable from a contractual point of view. you mentioned two extreme cases (i.e. where the voice actor died) but in reality there have been many re-dubs in the world. if i’m not mistaken there is a question of use of dubbing rights, i’ve seen similar cases in dvd editions of various japanese anime in which, depending on the publication, there was no authorization to have all types of dubbing in the same country, or it depended on the publisher.

the same seems to be also regarding dubbing. or, trivially an authorization of use of recording studios in the use of old voices on products that are currently being updated. it therefore means that for example you can enjoy an old movie or videogame single player dubbed by people who died years ago, but you can’t keep an old dubbing active on a product that has dubbing among the updates (especially of a live service game). these are small quibbles that some countries in the world treat very severely.

I know for example that Germany changed a lot of its voice actors with the arrival of OW2, perhaps due to a change of recording studio. and it is speculated (so it is not certain) that some voice actors from eastern european countries have abandoned their dubbing collaboration due to the presence of lgbt themes. Even in my country, Italy, Reinhardt actually has a voice actor who changed after Halloween 2016, but for contractual reasons in distribution.

it’s clear what you mean: “but there are all the voicelines needed for classic mode, why not do it? :no_mouth:” but the point is that the thing is more complicated than it seems, from the “trivially” contractual point of view on the conditions of use of the voiceovers on subjects that foresee further updates in the future. even WoW classic had to make these compromises.

anyway, i hope that regardless of the voice, it’s still a nice way to feel like you’ve gone back in time. :hugs:
