Can the FPS show a wrong number?

Because it shows the usual number but I feel like I’m playing with much less.

There is no reason not to match but if you are on steam, you can enable fps overly or run fraps if you have doubts.

You probably have vsync enabled or experiencing some sort of input lag which can make the game feel less responsive.

Did you check what your fps is set to under video settings? It’s like tied to the resolution change option. The other day mine swapped from 155 to 60 and stayed at 1440p resolution, so I didn’t notice right away that it was from that option. As in game it still said 400+.

To awnser the actual question: No.

Framrate is a measure of how many frames the game is producing, but that doesn’t mean they’re all actually being displayed. For example as Cnflagration mentioned above, if your display settings are set to a lower refresh rate, then you could be getting 400fps but running at 60hz. It doesn’t matter how much fps you’re getting, you’ll only see 60.

To more directly answer your question - it depends a bit on whether the FPS display is the individual frame time, or a running average over a few frames. For example, if you’re normally getting a stable 200fps but every tenth frame it spikes and you get a 30ms stutter, that one specific frame will be roughly thew equivalent of 30fps, but it may be hard to notice in the FPS counter, especially if that is just averaged in the FPS calculation of the surrounding frames. You’ll either see it flicker to 30fps for a tiny fraction of a second, or the running average might still be like 180 if averaged over 10 frames.
