Hey everyone. I’m writing hoping someone can shed some light on ranking up/down and if possible, provide some feedback. Not sure if that’s the right channel to ask for that. If not, only understanding better why ranking up is looking so weird for me will already be greatly appreciated.
Im currently G4 on support role.
Two streaks ago I went 7W12L and stayed G4. My last streak I went 7W3L and again did not move up.
If I may say so, my stats this last streak were fairly impressive compared to my average and to the other sups in the matches I played. I only played Moira. Healed around 9k/10min and dmg’ed around 5k/10min. With the exception of one loss in which my team was completely annihilated and we didn’t even move the payload, I had 25+ elimination around 5 deaths.
I really tried to give the MMR and my “winning streak teams” a chance. I played my best to improve my competitiveness and reduce losses.
Why the heck did I stay the same tier? Lol
7/3 is completely different than 7/12.
Is that the case I was previously almost a G5 and now I’m probably almost back to G3?
Anyways, if that’s the case, Blizz is losing the opportunity to motivate people to keep playing by providing more frequent and detailed feedback.
Edit: maybe I’m playing in a way that the game does not recognize as good enough to rank up.
Sharing a few games of the last streak in case a good soul wants to provide feedback lol.
P9E9N6 - win (good win)
KZ3FBW - loss (avg loss)
8FQBN5 - loss (demolished)

I cant look at the replays at the moment unfortunately but…
First and foremost, win/loss is the biggest contributor to your SR gain.
Im not sure if this is true for OW2, but in OW1 your performance also affected it.
Moving on to this…
Chances are in your first set of games (the 7W12L) you were at the higher end of G4, and your net loss of -5 games took you to the lower end of it.
With your second set of games (the 7W 3L) your net gain of +4 games probably took you closer to the higher end of the tier again.
This is keeping in mind that each SR tier is about 100SR if we’re comparing it to OW1 (with the exception of bronze5), and each game won/lost is a gain/loss of 20 to 25 SR (im estimating here), plus or minus “performance” if they still do that.
I guess I was surprised after seeing some people mentioning that they went 7/0 and they skipped 2 tiers. Thought that with a 7/3 I would at least upgrade one, but what you said makes sense. Thanks!
I believe the current system doesn’t work the way normal people think it should. (win more games, get more rank. lose more games, lose more rank)
I believe it works by matching your skill level (stats exactly are unknown) vs what other people have. So, let’s say you have exactly the same skill as you do today, tomorrow. But, everyone’s collective skill goes up by 1 tomorrow. Then your MMR would go down by 1, due to it be less than the collective skill level.
It’s a stupid system, and gaining rank shouldn’t be matched vs what everyone else is doing. Only how your wins and losses are.
We used to have that. Every game, we knew how close we were to the next rank. But people were toxic and stuff, so now, we only have tiers.
Unfortunately, currently, there is no way to know how close you are to ranking up.
I watched some of your replays and you often waste your healing juice and your abilities. Don’t wait for your juice to be empty to try to fill it. Every time you can do some damage, do some damage. You need to multi-task, don’t focus on just healing or doing damage.
Don’t heal people if they’re full health, don’t try to heal teammates from the other side of the map, be aware of your range.
You should rewatch that one. You spend a lot of time doing something else and it lost you some fights. You weren’t ready when the doors opened.
Try to focus on the game, if you want to type, only type when you’re dead.
If someone flames you or tells you to switch,

to hide the chat. Don’t engage with them because it doesn’t help.
Your two 7W12L streaks were probably early on. As they likely dropped your SR by a full rank, 7W7L would have resulted in you advancing a tier or two as your SR is a long way from your MMR early on. As it was you stayed the same when normally you would drop.
After a while your SR approaches your MMR and you get normal SR gain and losses. The 7W3L probably represents that. Your 4 wins in OW1 would have netted you approx 23 per win giving a gain of 92SR. Adjust for performance and you can see that 4 wins would not necessarily rank you up but would go close.
In the heat of the moment I usually think I’m not wasting it, but watching replays it becomes more clear the opportunities I have. Thanks for watching those!
Hey there! It sounds like you’ve put in a lot of effort and dedication into your games, and it’s understandable to feel frustrated when you don’t see the results you were hoping for.
It’s important to keep in mind that Overwatch’s ranking system takes into account a lot of factors beyond just your individual stats, such as your team’s performance, the enemy team’s performance, and the skill level of your opponents. Winning streaks and individual performance can certainly have an impact on your ranking, but they’re not the only factors at play.
That being said, it’s definitely possible that you were previously close to ranking up and have since fallen back down due to losses or a decrease in overall performance. Overwatch’s ranking system can be complex, and it’s not always easy to predict exactly how it will respond to your gameplay.
If you’re looking for more specific feedback on your gameplay, you might consider reaching out to other players or coaches who can provide more personalized advice. There are also many resources online, such as Overwatch forums and YouTube channels, where you can find tips and strategies for improving your gameplay.
Overall, it’s important to stay positive and continue to focus on improving your skills, even if you don’t see immediate results in your ranking. Keep up the good work, and I hope you see the progress you’re looking for soon!
