Can i get some Doomfist tips?

I’ve never really tried playing doom before but I want to give it a shot. From what I hear, doom is actually similar to ball? Idk if this is true but If it is that’s good because I’m a pretty decent ball player. Any general or less known doomfish tips will be appreciated.

Brace yourself, for your life will never be the same.

Men, women and children will hate you.

People will never want you to be happy.

Every joy you have from now on will be tainted with the tears of a fellow person.

My only advice is to run and never look back.

Well all the guides are a little out of date now because of the balance changes so don’t watch old videos.

I am not the best to give you advice (I’ve solo q’d from low silver to plat) on mechanics because mine are awful but:

  • learn which characters you can kill 1v1 without too much trouble.
  • learn the Doomfist cycle of cooldowns (one/two abilities to go in, one/two abilities to get out) interweaving you’re hand cannon for maximum damage
  • try and focus on a target you can kill each time
  • even if you don’t get the kill, keep the pressure up - they get tilted after a while
  • know when to switch (if their team has a lot of cc, switch
  • if they have a counter, wait for the cooldowns that can kill you to be used before you dive in
  • if you have good tanks that push forward, you can use your ult offensively, if not, take the opportunity to use all your cooldowns and use your ult to escape.
  • if you can, always escape to high ground (like kings row)
  • I personally find he is better on defense than attack because the element of surprise is key

yeah, sharing the same opinion, playing him on defense is imo more effective.

Basic tips: Learn to rollout simple stuff for the start. Learn how to jump at end of the punch to get some extra movement. Learn how to bounce of some simple objectives, that give you good movement and is kinda not so predictable for enemys ( depending on ranks)

Dont be afraid of Roadhog kinda, wait until he dont have Hook and you can nearly kill him and cancel his breather. It takes a bunch of time to get a pretty fluid movement. Make sure that you dont just rush in from frontline, youll be ded in 0.01 second due to spam damage anyway. as the guy overthere said, learn cooldown managing, learn bounceplays ( that maybe takes a lot of time depending on maps kinda)

I forgot about this entirely but it makes a HUGE difference to your mobility when you want to engage or escape.

Practice this and turn punches and you will live much more

yeah kinda. Like yesterday, enemy genji was shocked. Gibraltar, payload ( we on atack) moves near to the first checkpoint, genji runs on the high ground to escape me ( right on the small door with the pack in there ) i just bounced off that small box and flew into highground deleting him with uppercut, one of the weirdest diagonal bounces ive done, actually i just went like a lift up there with this small box

Would also maybe watch some getQuakedOn videos on YT, he shows nearly everything, many rollouts sadly are gone due to balance changes, but it gives you kinda basic knowledge how you can bounce off nearly everything ( like Moth did those last days on junkertown like) Maybe go play some workshop games with doomfist parkour also

When it works, it’s amazing.

I managed to stall Hanamura when 1v5 by killing two and escaping from the side of the point first point where you can fall by bouncing off the wall (which I learnt in parkour).

They thought they cornered me.

Not today!

yeah but sometimes its hella inconsistent.

Also one small tip depending on how you choose to play… rather go in, get one healer/someone destroyed and die to that when you cant escape, depending on where there respawn is. There healer needs way longer than you back to the frontline mostly

Punchbot if you want to win, SlamCut if you don’t want tumors.

For the little that I’ve played Doomfist I can only say stay away from Hogs, try to max the slam damage for more reliable kills & save a cooldown (or ulti) for escape. A Doomfist without cooldowns in the middle of the red team is a dead Doomfist.

if you wanna play doomfist the most consistently then just punhbot. stand behind your shield punch the enemy and slam uppercut out. it’s the most consistent way to kill considering how his slam and uppercut is.

slam is really buggy and uppercut is inconsistent.
e.g. if you uppercut an enemy and they’re not in an open area, they’ll probably hit a wall and slide away form you, not go as high as you, you could hit the wall or another object and your whole combos messes up then you have to just escape.

But if you wanna go the flank slam uppercut route then prioritise squishies, healers etc. Keep track of enemies abilities and any cc they might have. getting cc’d as doomfist rn is pretty much a guaranteed kill. Asking your teammates to help you keep track of certain enemy cc is nice as well since a mccree without flash and an ana without sleep is a free kill.

Don’t play doom into a comp with 3 cc or more because you’re just gonna have a bad time, especially if you’re starting out.

Keep track of your cooldowns. Always make sure you have 3 cooldowns when you engage. Use 2 to secure the kill and the 3rd to escape. it’s ok to use all 3 to engage and kill if you have meteor strike to escape. If you have a zarya coordinate with her so she can bubble you whenever you engage. it’s free energy for her and could be a kill for your team.

Always have an escape route for every engage, if you can’t see a good route to escape it’s best not go in.

Going for rollouts and flashy stuff like that is fine but going for the big ones, especially 125 slams and such, make you really easy to spot and cc since you’re so loud. But if you have fun doing it like that then by all means have at it.

Lastly learning rollouts and doom tech is basically half the fun with the hero so i recommend looking at it if it interests you, although applying it in game isn’t necessary and climbing ranked with doom is possible without all of that. so yh just play him how you want and have fun tbh

turn off match chat

on a more serious note, learn how to cycle your abilities, your favorable matchups, some basic tech, and a rollout or two

Ability List Cycling

  • Know when to use SlamUppercut combo or RocketPunch to kill
    • Generally use SlamUppercut on anything that doesn’t have CC and Rocket Punch on stuff that do have CC
  • Be creative with how you use abilities
    • Uppercutting then Slamming can work on some enemies, especially snipers with escape abilities
    • Sometimes, Meteor Striking can be used to kill long range enemies and you can use your abilities to escape.

Positioning

  • You can either position high ground to setup slam damage or low ground to use your punch to either punish enemies or to push the main tank back.
  • Sometimes, acting as a backline support is really benefical to your team. For instance, since you have a positive matchup against Genji, you can hangaround the backline to punish him if he tries to kill your supports

Rollouts

  • Generally, Rollouts aren’t worth the time to setup, but if you want to do them, you should use all of your abilities then meteor strike to position for maximum value.

Good Doomfists will keep you playing, making you realize that if the enemy has a team, your pick will be worthless.
