Can drop protection only be for ranks

I frankly could care less if I drop division x to division y within the same rank. I’m even wondering if I wouldn’t mind dropping a rank as well, all to avoid “volatile”.

You never know when that epic battle is going to take place, and if drop protection was the game before, you’re setting yourself up for either a volatile loss or a less than stellar win.

Bastion and Hanzo on the cart, the only 2 people left for their team. me and a support are the only two people left for our team.

Bastion kills my Moira but I get a dynamite on both of them. I take some hip shots at bastion and kill him! The cart is moving so slow towards its point 2 check point. I manage to hit the Hanzo with a hip shot who is still on fire. I move around but not directly in front. He gets scared and c9s! Every cheering in voice! My heart racing! I just 2v1 to win the game!

Anticipating if the game was uphill - omg that would be epic, man any modifier would be interesting after that 5 round epic battle where I clutched the win…. 1% gain. I close the game.

Drop protection seems like another poorly named tag. Seems like it’s only a warning that you’ll drop if you lose. There is no “protection”

No… there is drop protection. On avg I lose 19-20 / gain 19- 20percent. But if I were to drop a division I only lose “that much” left in the bar and RETAIN my higher status - to feel good about myself.

Which causes the “volatile” (If you lose one more) because my Mmr had already dropped, but my sr was artificially held up because of the “drop protection”.

It’s not well understood nor communicated. But it makes sense but I would rather have it drop me a division that time I lost, and have it just see the avg 19-20 if I lose again, or regain a division and get the 19-20 gain on the win.

So if your 10 from the drop. You lose 10

I bet if you lose next one, you’ll lose 28.

It won’t “protect” it’ll just shuffle it about.

Them not taking all 20 is the “drop protection”. Yes, we’re on the same page just different paragraph. I rather them just take the 20.

Agree. Seems an unnecessary addition.

It depends if you end the season with drop protection what happens? If you are still protected then keep it but if its a scam to demote you anyway then get rid of it.

When they had the 5 wins / 7 loss system or whatever it was they would just demote you anyway even if you didnt complete the card.

Win a game after drop protection keeps you at your current rank and pay attention to % increase. Lose a game after drop protection kept your rank and the drop is significant because it didn’t show you the actual drop before.
Drop Protection  = You dropped, but if you win your next game we’ll let you keep your rank but subtract the difference in % gains. Lose the next game and we’ll combine the 2 losses % rate and drop you hard.

Drop protection is just a really useless thing, because it doesn’t protect you from dropping, it just doesn’t visually show it.

It’ll say “drop protection” but for all intents and purposes, you have dropped and you are in the tier below. Hence why, when you win a game after drop protection, you gain literally nothing.

In reality you gained a regular win percentage, but because the game didn’t visually show you dropping in the past game, it makes it looks like you only gained 3%. So say when you dropped you ended up at 85% of the previous tier, but the game visually still shows you at 0% of the rank you got “protected” at. So the next game you win, say you gain 20%. To the game, you gained 20% from 85% of the previous rank, and you ranked back up.

But to you visually, 15% of that gain is unnoticeable because it was used to get you back into your original tier, so all you see is the leftover +5%.

It’s just really dumb and overly complicated for no reason. It would genuinely be better to just have people drop and show that instead. Because then if they lose after drop protection it looks even WORSE, when it visually shows them losing like 40% in one game.

Well thanks folks, I think its powerful when all sides can come together and all agree. If a dev comes looking around they can get some meaningful feedback.

For anyone who wanted to see that super stressful clutch play…
