It’s up to you. Personal freedom isn’t very compatible with perfect society, because everyone has their own vision on what and how should be done, while society needs direction that everyone follows to progress.
Dystopia may look scary from inside, but it’s quite well-designed structure, that works.

Perfect society is inachievable- personal freedom is a necessity to prevent totalitarian control that can undeniably ruin lives. Personal freedom allows improvement and discussion in an imperfect society to better it, where the destruction of personal freedom prevents concerns from being raised and adressed if they are not of concern to those in power, resulting in an inherently flawed society for anyone who is not on the top abusing it. 1984 is centered around this concept and I suggest you read it.

And I always had admiration for ways to manipulate people into acting in desired way. Ideally, with them sincerely believing, that they are acting on their own will.
