I heard lots of people said Bastion is bad, but every time I, my teammates or the enemy use Bastion they win. Very high damage and very hard to kill ( Have double shied, two healers keep healing him ). I know Bastion is bad when he is alone but not when group up. CAN ANY1 TELL ME WHY BASTION IS BAD ? ( I asked politely )
Bastion at low ranks puts the game in the hands of the opposing team. If they are unaware players who will walk through his line of sight, he is very powerful and will clean up.
If they are capable of using los, he’s not only a wasted slot himself, but wastes the inevitable shield and baptiste pockets people give him.
What you said about having a double shield, and 2 healers babysitting him, Bastion has so many counters that he almost isn’t a viable pick in any match above say 1400sr, I actually made it from bronze upto low plat, simply because enemy teams kept trying Bastion, just for him to get walked over by a Genji, Reaper, Sombra, and sometimes even a decently positioned Soldier.
From what I know, people generally say the following:
- If Bastion has a team that’s made around him, he’s at least worthwhile. Otherwise (which is very often when there’s no coordination), he’s not useful at all. Essentially, Bastion is too team-reliant.
- However, Bastion’s immobile playstyle means he’s countered by a long list of things (Any character that can take Bastion away from his team or counter his bullets - Roadhog and Sigma come to mind). If the enemy team is playing multiple of those counters, there’s just no reason to play Bastion.
- Also from my personal experience once you break a Bastion bunker or pirate ship it takes a bit before they set that back up again, and it gives the enemy team time to push forward and not allow Bastion to be around his team like he wants.
- I think the biggest problem is that a lot of people don’t view Bastion as a ‘fun’ character to play against (or even sometimes with) because of how polarizing his play style is - he’s either completely useless or he shreds the enemy team apart. Generally speaking, most of the characters that people want reworks for are quote-unquote ‘unfun,’ and Bastion fits that description perfectly.
He’s not. He just needs his team to work with him. And even when he doesn’t necessarily have that, a good bastion player can deal with that.
But his damage is too high, can’t even push, any suggestion ?
If you’re looking for suggestions against Bastion, you’d want to pull out one of his counters.
On Tank, you want Roadhog or Sigma. Sigma’s Experimental Barrier can stall against Bastion for enough time to give your team an opening, but don’t rely on it. Kinetic Grasp is also good as soaking up Bastion’s fire, and Accretion can possibly stun Bastion out of turret form (iirc) to give your team an opening. Gravitic Flux also ignores those double barriers, as well. Roadhog is great against Bastion purely because his high damage + his hook means with good aim and cleared out shields, Roadhog will absolutely dismantle a Bastion.
On DPS, you’re looking for spammy characters with high burst damage to use against Bastion. The two that come to mind to me are Junkrat and Echo - each of them have annoying bombs and burst kills to take out a Bastion quickly. Rip-Tire will run through enemy defenses, and Duplicate can allow Echo to give Bastion a taste of his own medicine.
On Support, there’s not a whole lot you can do against Bastion. Your best choices are probably Baptiste or Ana - Baptiste’s Immortality Field can stall long enough for your team to get rid of the Bastion, and Ana’s Sleep Dart can instantly take Bastion out of turret form to give your team an opening.
Position near a corner so he cannot continuously shoot you, peaking for one shot at a time using heroes with high burst damage to break shields. Then either hook him, matrix him, or kinetic grasp him while you focus him down. If it’s a payload map like junkertown, you can use a flank angle with hog to hook him, junk to pressure him into moving or his tanks into turning, etc.
If that’s too advanced, just avoid using ults one at a time or while down members and save up enough to ensure the victory. Once you’ve unseated him, the other team is at a severe disadvantage because you can keep pressure up and prevent him ever becoming relevant again(until he swaps).
I now ranks he is borderline op as noone knows how to deal with him effectively.
It’s the exact opposite in higher ranks.
If he gets any buffs he will be unstoppable in plat and below.
THANk you
Frankly, even comps not well suited for handling Bastion can do it quite well.
The key thing to remember is PATHING!
Time and time again I see people just taking the main path that lies directly in front of Bastion requiring you to walk like 30+M directly in his sightline before you can actually pressure him.
Always find the path with the most natural cover that takes you close to Bastion.
I had a game on Numbani where Bastion was in the high ground in the back of point (with double shields)
Our Winston/Zarya who have no barriers and short range damage would refuse to take any other path except high ground (stairs one) that’s directly across the point from their bunker. Like. Why!!! I tried to get them to go underground to me so we could take stairs directly to them in complete safety. Either we’d be right on top of them or push them out of their bunker into the open where we had a chance.
