I asked for DPS to pick a short range hero. I saw someone switch to Hanzo

This thread is to help some players identify which heroes are short range.
I believe the DPS role should be always one “short” range and one “long” range.
When both DPS go “long” range the game is usually lost.

What scenario calls for a close range hero specifically?
Because I’d say Doom, Mei, and Reaper, but I’m scratching my head over a scenario where a short range hero specifically is needed in this meta.
Hanzo CAN be a short range hero. When he wields a sword he’s pretty amazing with it, but he won’t use one anymore because he killed genji with it.
He also beat up genji up close with his bow. So that’s a thing.
(No, hanzo is not a cqc hero.)

And, even the Heroes I can think of, that might fall in that category, still have range abilities.
For example, let’s take Mei. Her primary fire, doesn’t have that long of a range, but her secondary does.

Melee range is Reaper and Genji. And Doomfist
Short range is Hanzo, Tracer, she fits both melee and short
Mid range is McAshe.
Long range is Widow, Soldier76
You can use any of those at any range (lol), but their effective range is very specific:
Hanzo being a slow projectile hero, doesnt have realiable accurace on mid range. He used best as silent abracadabra ninja from short range. Thats how he is used most of the time.
Soldier76 is bad at short range, short range heroes simply massacre him most of the time.
yeah I was boutta say lol, hes not really a sniper, more of a mid-close range hero
junker can be a really good short range hero when he is being pushed or goes on flanks. he is one hero a reaper or doom has to think twice or thrice before pushing in.
Ashe works both long and short range just depends on who’s playing her

I mean you could make an argument for McCree because of flashbang, and the closer a projectile is to it’s source the less travel time matters so Hanzo isn’t the worst pick.
When I think of short range I think of Rein, Brigitte, Doomfist, Symmetra, and Reaper
Disturbing lack of Pharah on these lists. She doesn’t get enough done to justify playing at range without damage boost.
reaper junk mei tracer sombra sym, Hanzo is not weaker at short range like widow jusdtr because he is strong at long range too.
I consider Mei as a good short range hero. She can freeze any hero up close.
You see my point though, right? Even the shortest of short range heroes, usually have something that’s long(er) range.
Take Reinhardt for example. He’s a Melee hero, but Firestrike does have range.
