By the devs own admission the Mercy changes are a fail

So players, that pay little attention to changes, still would try to fly between teammates. Only to get stuck with GA cooldown and promptly eliminated with burst damage, which she can’t tank.

I’d say given their previous communication on Seagull’s stream about wanting feedback on how she feels, and given how Mercy players and Mercy haters both viscerally despise these changes, they’d revert them after 2 weeks since Alec flat-out said “balance aside”.

To be blunt I think because they have no idea what they’re doing with Mercy. I don’t want to go full tin foil hat and say they lied to GreyFalcon about there being just as many support players and are terrified of nerfing them. That’s a topic for another day lol.

Considering they balance her, as if she can multitask, like other supports(which she can’t), it’s probably close to reality.

Most of those supports will never get to high ranks, for various reasons. So nerfing supports for low ranks leads to even worse shortage of them at high ranks, as even less players will get there.

Would be interesting to see stats, on how many low rank supports eventually end up in high ranks.

This is what you think the devs were thinking with these changes? You’ve got to be kidding

What this tells me is that you can’t explain why they’d buff her self healing in combat if their goal was to make her die more.

Reason being because that was never their goal.

Yes. When you want hero to die more, straight up nerfing their survivability is too obvious and unlikely to work, so you have to be somewhat creative. You want players still take same risks as before, even while those risks are now fatal to take.

Well I can’t help you if you’ve got a tin foil hat on. The devs aren’t malevolently rubbing their hands together thinking “haha!! We got em!! They’re going to try to fly and die!!”

The devs simply wanted to nerf her newfound elusivity that came from the rework they gave GA’s techs but not just flat out nerf her so she’s easy to kill, so they gave her in combat healing.

They failed, as you can tell - players turned out not as blind, as expected.

However you nerf elusivity in game, where burst damage is most reliable means of getting a kill, you make hero die more often.

They could give Mercy self-heal during resurrect and increase cast time to 3 seconds, and it would achieve similar results, since self-heal isn’t valid defense against burst or couple of consecutive headshots.

SO, instead, you’d rather have nerfs that actually make her weaker, rather than ones that kept her just as powerful?

I’m not sure you understand what you’re asking for. If they revert GA, they’re going to nerf something else that will likely make her perform at a lower level.

Hopefully, this latest set of changes that I see as gutting Mercy will be reverted soon

How do you make this claim when the devs pretty much said she does not “die more often?” According to the data?

Because it was their intention. Luckily, players chose to hide, instead of testing their luck with new cooldown.

What was their intention?

I think the question that should be asked is - who are the changes even for?

Mercy players that enjoy her? Or the players that were complaining about Mercy? Because it’s done nothing for either of these really. It seems a lot of Mercy players either don’t like or hate the changes, and it seems a lot of the people complaining about Mercy are still complaining about Mercy.

So why even bother with them in the first place? :man_shrugging: Yes they’ve nerfed her evasiveness, that’s great, but have appeased barely anyone in the process.

That wasn’t just a compensation buff. It was a rework to make her a main healer in OW2. She was not viable really, other than as a pocket bot, as an offhealer. Some sort of burst heals was essential.

According to them it’s a success Dodo. They don’t revert successes.

Both, really. The changes make non-Mercy players not need aimbot to kill her (obviously an exaggeration) and they make Mercy players feel more impactful healing low HP allies & also tankier when she does take damage thanks to her new self heal.

Need continue the boycott for this to happen, and we can only do that by not playing with Mercy.

Mercy mains have historically been the least happy when their hero is dominating the meta. They were absolutely miserable (and EXTREMELY vocal about it) during the 2018 Moth Meta, when Mercy got reworked into an OPAF moth monster & dominated the meta for over a year… because even though Moth Mercy was statistically very powerful, she was LESS fun to play compared to her (statistically much weaker) pre-rework form.

Mercy is a purely decision-making hero, whose players thrive on speed-chess style strategy. It doesn’t matter how powerful you make Mercy, her mains aren’t going to be happy until Mercy has a hell of a lot more strategic depth than she does now (which is currently extremely dumbed down & oversimplified compared to what Mercy started with).

They should actually listen to Samito for once and like he suggested , instead of ga cd nerfs , put a cd on the superjump instead
