But what about Mauga?

Yeah, Sojourn’s here, that’s nice, I guess. Not my type of hero, but I’m sure that she excites her intended crowd. What about Mauga?
That one leak about Junker Queen was something. I’m sure everyone waiting for her to come was thrilled. Not my type of tank though, and those poor Mama Hong enthusiasts. Yeah, so, uh… what about Mauga?
Aww, that’s sweet. Some of the maps have changed lighting. I like that, that’s real cute, reeeeal cute. Okay, so Mauga now? No? Still nothing? Okay then.

This is exactly how I’ve responded to every bit of info I’ve learned or seen about OW2. :expressionless:

We haven’t heard hide nor hair of him in the three years since they released Sigma instead, and said they planned on releasing him with the kit they envisioned. I’ve even had the majority of my friends forget he even exists, much less that he was intended to be released. It would be real nice for him to receive the same leaks… or just a general confirmation that he’s still being worked on.

I gave up on seeing him in OW1 a while ago, and I’ve given up in seeing him in the beta already. I hate to say that I’m not appreciating OW2 the way I should be, because I’m still searching for any thread of hope.

I’m going to be really disappointed if it ends up that it took three years for the developers to say ‘Huh? Who’s that? Oh, him? We dropped him ages ago, couldn’t you tell?’ or something along those lines. He was already established to have been coming. Why be so… quiet with his existence for such a long period of time if he’s supposedly sure to come? :upside_down_face:

It feels like they’re expecting the entirety of us to forget if they’re quiet enough. At this point, I’d take any confirmation, besides telling myself ‘He’ll come eventually! Yep, it’ll be any day now. Could even be this week!’ :pensive:

That one person who hacked their client in order to be able to select Heavy Assault in PvP way back when must be laughing at us all now.

Aside from Sojurn, as far as I’m aware no other heroes have so much as been teased for Overwatch 2 let alone confirmed. This doesn’t mean that there are none, simply that their additions to the game are going to be a surprise.

It would be a rather anticlimactic launch if we knew who all the new heroes were going to be beforehand.

Well I’m pretty sure they had his model and most animations and stuff ready for him since Sigma, since as you said he was the one planned to be released

They just had to remake another kit I guess? Which actually now that I think about it, I wouldn’t even be surprised if nothing was made for him yet…

They gave his kit to “new” Orisa

Not until we addressed the Droid attack on the Wookies!

Yeah I’m really hoping he’s the first new tank to enter OW2

But I believe there’s a stark difference between teasing a hero that we knew was going to be released long beforehand, and teasing a hero who’s completely new and we received no news about. I’m certainly not asking to get the entire profile of each new hero, just the single ‘supposedly’ coming hero that they zipped their lips shut on, for some strange reason.

Did they actually ever say he was coming?

Only DPS mains get new heroes now.

No. It’s speculation. They did, however, say that OW2 will come with about half a dozen new heroes at once. It’s an educated guess that Mauga might be one of them.

No they didn’t. I am not fully convinced he will come at launch personally, they likely had other kits ready to go before the whole move to Sigma and I bet he got put on the back-burner.

Pathetic really, that’s not even backfill for what we should have had on a regular release rate… honestly, I think someone calculated we by now are due eight new heroes.

Yes. Moreover, they have actually effectively deleted a tank.

Um, they’ve never specified a number. They’ve specifically avoided doing that in fact lol. We’ve only been able to assume a minimum number of heroes (5-6) based on their phrasing.

I did qualify my statement, no?

What? You said the devs said that they will release only ~6 heroes, when that was actually the implied minimum.

All I’m saying is they have never confirmed the total number of heroes that are coming.

Let me put it in a different way:

“Minimum 6” means every number from 6 until infinity. If they were to release 100 heroes with OW2, that is not “about half a dozen”

Yes, they did.

Jeff himself said it during an interview with Seagull. It’s so old now that the link to the Twitch video is dead (I’ve even tried to use the Wayback Machine :upside_down_face:), but a lot of Youtube channels referenced it. Such as Your Overwatch, despite how much I don’t want to use them as proof.

Edit: Found a clip where Jeff referenced it.

The reason they’re not putting out more heroes right now is so that they have something to dripfeed to the community over the subsequent months until the full release of OW2. They’ll probably have a cadence of beta phase, anniversary remix, beta phase with new hero, another remix, etc.

It’s probably also easier to fine-tune the balance of one new hero at a time, establish that baseline, then introduce another one.

LOL we know Sigma was originally Mauga, the point is they have no committed to Mauga coming for certain at launch of OW 2.

So, no, they didn’t. And Jeff’s gone btw. I think it’s 50/50 chance if ever quite honestly.
