Burn down the Skill Tree.. Roguelike game mode?

I’m not sure if it’s been discussed here or not, but this seems simple enough to do and would add a ton of replayability to the PVE missions and would be much easier to develop at a timely pace.

Instead of dozens of skills, offer 6-8 branches that can be modified with upgrades. Let people spec into 2-3 per run. The upgrades are usually simple modifiers, which are basically Workshop-level work. Include base things like more damage, more health, and more speed which are available for every hero…

Blizzard could even revive some of the skill-tree mechanics they’ve already developed that fans got to peek at, like the spherical Earthshatter modifier.

I’ve been worried about how replayable these missions really will be, and think this is a pretty valid way to crank up the fun and make each playthrough unique. Games like RoboQuest, Gunfire Reborn, or Risk of Rain 2 get their replayability from their rougelike nature and I think Overwatch is in a good position to do the same.

Give me a reason to play multiple characters multiple times!

sorry but i dont think blizzard has the creativity or passion to pull off something like this

if we do ever get an actually decent replayable pve mode, it will most likely come from the community (workshop) and not blizzard themselves

with that being said, i think a l4d style pve mode with roguelike progression would fit overwatch’s gameplay quite nicely

Either it’s simple enough to be useable on every character (and therefore, its impact might be a bit limited, or at least not bring much to some characters), or it’s still too much work for a side-project.

I made a thread about alternate abilities for every hero, it’s easier to implement rather than giving every hero a skill tree + it can be updated on casually as the devs please.

I don’t think it’s simple enough to do but it would be a lot of fun.
