Buff Tracer & Nerfing Torb in the Same Patch?

Tracer already had the best perk in the game and we felt the need to buff her more while nerfing one of her counters!?

The point of this game is not the balance anymore, it’s to Meta shift from Season to Season to drive content engagement. One Tricks do not shell out cash for skins other than their faves, so they’re not going to cater to that. They’re going to cater to those who can shift with the Meta since controlling the Meta via power creeping heroes of choice is far cheaper and less riskier than actually trying to Balance the game.

They couldn’t even do that right because the meta is going to stay the exact same as it’s been the past month lmao.

How is it a meta shift when we will have the same top performing heroes?

No they did it correctly. Tracer for example is one of the character’s that featured in the new content for purchase. May as well buff her to make sure people are instigated to buy the 5 pack at least so they can show off their K-Pop skin while feeling a high rush due to the buffs.

It’s not like she’s game breaking but I can understand everyone’s frustration. From low ranks to Masters, everyone calls out her Perk being so broken, along with Ana’s - but it doesn’t matter. Tracer was a skin feature set this round, so she gets some love. Ana doesn’t get touched, either.

Thank goodness Ana hasn’t been meta in- Wait, she’s always been meta? Literally always? Forever? Dang.

Its’ not balanced via metrics, but via market. Ana has OWL skins that are worth quite a few tokens but with Token going out of favor, demand is building to purchase the rare skins via the gold coins.

Both of you also assume way too much in thinking they shift the meta quickly. They don’t, there’s no need to. Sunken Cost fallacy applies. Do as little as possible if it’s still earning a profit.

JQ, Kiri, Tracer, ect, all are some of the top Skin sales based on surveys. It stands to reason we will continue to see them be … relatively “favored” for the foreseeable future.
Try to remember that marketing is a big driver in this. Streamers are a prime marketing tool now, and you’ll see more Widows and Ana’s played on those streams, which coincides with why they have high skin sale demands.

The devs would rather rework the core of the entire game TWICE than nerf Ana.

Torb nerf makes absolutely zero sense.

so wait, they keep Sojourn the same and buff Tracer and no changes to many other problem characters like Ana and Widow but they nerf characters who don’t need it? I don’t know who decides balance in this game but please replace them, when there’s a meta in this gamer it’s not only entirely noticeable and game ruining, it actively makes me not want to play. I mean Sojourn is in every game I’m in and shes horrible and takes no skill. Is it gonna be like Widow where they refuse to do anything about her for reasons?

Torb is not supposed to be viable at the highest ranks. These changes are reasonable.

Torb still counters Tracer in most ranks, for most players. It’s a fundamental thing.

They buffed the one people didn’t take. The op says she has the best perk in the game already, which is debatable, but it’s certainly one of the best. And you would have to give that up for the one that just got buffed. Which I doubt anyone is doing.

Didn’t expect the torb nerfs, but is it really a tracer buff if it’s to something people won’t use?

There was an era of OW, a long time ago, when Ana was actual trash. I miss that era.

I swear Geoff Goodman left a deadmans switch in the code that’ll trigger if they nerf ana and instantly upload the secret Cosby room files that’s why they’ll never touch her.

I don’t think Tracer needed buffs, but Torb absolutely needed nerfs.

Can i ask why not? im not a competetive player but is it stupid of me to think every character should have viability in any rank. Saying one character shouldnt be viable sounds kinda pretentious and stupid to me

The developers opted to add in Baptiste’s invincibility field and Kiriko’s suzu rather than nerf biotic nade.

Think about that.

The original way OW1 was balanced was that certain heroes ‘shouldn’t’ be meta in high ranks.

Heroes originally had a star system in their info page that stated how hard they were to use. 1 star characters like Reaper, S76 and Mercy were intended to not be very viable in high ranks. At some point that philosophy changed, it’s hard to say in what season that was.

He is technically viable. Always was.
There are Torb players in Top500 every season.
He just was not meta.

People in high ranks don’t like the kit of Torb. They find him boring and cheesy.

They will complain the day he becomes too powerful or a must pick.

The biggest reason that Torb wasn’t meta in OW1 was his mediocre original ult and his colossal head hitbox.

In OW2 he’s always been good, but like Symmetra, Junk and Mei Torb has had a reputation that he’s bad compared to hitscan and dive characters. It’s just in the last half year that playing Torb is seen as a very legit strategy. He’s essentially Mei + Reaper with a zoning ult, and his head isn’t as massive now.
