I’ll continue to demand this till he gets a meaningful buff. To give you guys and idea of how bad he is. Consider that from OW1-OW2:
He’s better against armor.
There’s less CC to stop him.
Widow got a big nerf and dropped in popularity.
Tanks that he’s good against became more popular.
A passive that greatly benefits him.
And a only a single tank for him to bully and block his ult.
and a new Gamemode that’s very close quarters
and Yet he’s still somehow one of the lease popular characters in the game despite having seemingly an environment that should make him one of the best.
they should just make his movement abilities either less clunky or just change his teleport. They should also give him one more ability so he isnt just a character that requires players to be kissing the tank to be viable. This guy definitely needs some way to be more viable bc i find him very fun to stomp bad tanks.
Funny enough the april fools change was literally perfect. Let Reaper move for the first half so it’s an actual mid fight escape and not a “kill me Im standing still”
I also think they could reduce the cooldown by 2-5 seconds along with it since it would still be really bad outside of Wraith Form, maybe reduce a bit of his pellet damage to compesate from 5.4 to 5 or his lifesteal.
You know i hear that he’s a noob shredder but I don’t see it happen, I don’t hear posts from noobs saying he’s op and i don’t remember seeijg many reapers From bronze VODS that streamers watch. i think that idea is kinda a myth now
As much as I like these changes, I can see a scenario where Reaper Mauga will be meta since cardiac ovderdrive converts 70% of damage into healing compounded with his 35% passive, making him do more healing per shot (making him nearly unkillable). Then blizzard is going to see this and nerf him into the ground
Unlikely, not with Tracer being this strong, i doubt Mauga is going to go to comp with these stats too and also doubt Reaper/Mauga rush is all that good, but theres still a chance knowing Blizz Balance team, the same one that nerfed Cassidy when he was already the worst hitscan.
I seriously doubt Reaper is going to be meta just because he gets more lifesteal with Mauga but we’ll c, historically hes usually good when he gets to use speed boost well, unless his lifesteal gets out of hand but even then, its tied to Mauga and not him.
I think most likely Mauga is getting nerfed b4 hitting comp and then they might do some other dum’ balance change but if they dont revert Tracer’s buff, Reaper will definetly need help to even be remotely viable.
Though yes, i also think Sigma and D.va are really good vs Mauga but he might be a little too good rn.
Reaper is absolutely much better on the metal ranks for the same reason Rein and Moira are, hes just a big ball of stats that dont rely as much on aim wich punish people being horribly out of position and not using high ground.
There was another recent discussion on this forum about him. It has given me time to think and also observe other people’s ideas.
I largely think he is “fine” but could use a few interaction changes and perhaps a new ability for more skill expression.
So here is a small list of ideas. Most of which are not intended to be done together but rather some options.
Allow Reaper to shadowstep during wraith. Enabling him to escape easier but also arrive at his destination in wraith so he is less vulnerable.
His right click is currently not utilized. Leaving it open for a new ability.
Give him a new ability that allows him to temporarily treat armor as normal health and bypass overhealth. This ability can be triggered during death blossom as well.
Simply give him a more focused but less damaging shot for engaging enemies at further range. Much like Cassidy has a right click for close quarters. The inverse would now be true for Reaper but not nearly as range effective.
Move Wraith form to his right click and put it on a usage meter much like dva’s defense matrix and roadhogs take a breather. This could enable more “outplay” potential and give Reaper more sustainability. This may require a change to his instant reload. Perhaps a reload over time. One shot per second in wraith maybe?
Return his soul orb mechanic but retain his health gain when doing damage. Any kills he participate in will drop soul orbs that give him X amount of health when picked up. This may help him sustain in the fight better as one of his weaknesses right now is that if he has no target to sustain he is entirely reliant on pealing back into his team or focused support.
Feel free to critique. Just some minor thoughts on it.
I see Reaper threads literally daily asking for buffs and its insane the devs have not commented on Reaper in over a year. They literally just ignore all the feedback for an outdated hero
I think thats the best, easiest change to implement together with less cooldown on Shadow Step.
I do think a alt-fire on a cooldown much like Soldier’s Helix, sort of him pulling out a third gun to shoot a slug-shot would be cool but maybe too much work to implement in comparison.
They would also have to change his manual reload since its ridiculously easy to press R + Wraith cancel it to reload instantly before they even gave him a Wraith reload but i think they might be leaning too much on resource meters and i think Wraith is already good as it is in comparison to Shadow Step.
Soul mechanic was kinda fun but i think its really not a good mechanic for the most part, too snowbally and usually didnt do much, it would likely have to be alot better than just self sustain to be any good but again i think its best to buff Shadow Step.
They might need to move some of his shotgun damage to Shadow step’s power so that hes not so easy to get value out of specially on the lower ranks though.
making wraith on a resource meter will make it overpowered, he can use it to instantly reload, get out of danger quickly and cleanses him of all negative effects. This could work if they change how the reload and cleanse works (such as having to be in wraith for 1-2 seconds).
