I was wondering if you’d consider buffing Genji shuriken’s number to set them back to 30 ?
I understand the decision you made to nerf Genji shuriken’s damage and number at the time (past season 1) but since then a lot of changes came over to the game and my question is : Are these changes still necessary according to you ?
For my part, I find that this has a fairly significant impact on the pace of play that you can have with Genji. And to find yourself in full flow without shuriken, and to be forced to back a bit and take the time to reload before starting again, from a certain level it makes quite a difference sometimes.
It doesn’t prevent me from being efficient with Genji, it’s just that the rhythm with him is quite odd because of the number of shurikens that I find quite limited in most situations i encounter.
I would like to point out that genji has both a high play rate, and a high winrate at all ranks.
And respectively feel that he is in a solid place at the moment.
On top of that I think it is a bit much for his damage to be any higher, as just a point or two will allow him to insta combo 250hp heroes. Which is one of the few benefits said heroes have, especially when you consider the two have to fight in close range. And can’t leave/pick their fights at their leisure like Genji can.
If anything I feel something like Junker queens axe specifically should be able to go through his deflect.
Genji’s ammo is currently at his launch numbers. Technically, there’s nothing wrong here with Genji’s ammo, as he isn’t supposed to be using so much of it to eliminate one target. You’re supposed to be focusing in on headshots, and eliminating the target quickly. Not bunny-hopping and fanning out shuriken hoping one of them hits and repeating the process. Genji’s gameplay is supposed to quick, efficient and sweeping through to the next target and eliminating them. That’s the ideal, and you should be practicing that.
Mei can force a stalemate, Reaper can go invincible at any time to avoid specific attacks. These fights are generally even matches for Genji, if not slightly disadvantaged. Though it is true that Genji can escape Reaper in these situations, and Torbjorn isn’t favorable to Genji, either way.
I was interested of discussing about the feeling i have, that’s one of the reasons why I’m making this post. Though i should add that i was a Master Genji back in Season 10, and i have now almost 400+ hours on this account with him.
So this is not a matter of “lack of skill”, or “i can’t do anything”.
I simply feel a bit frustrated to running out of shurikens on some situations yes, but I’m also providing personal feedback on him in his current state compared to the overall balance of the game.
That being said, i kind of agree with what you said. I still wish he could use a bit more ammo, (and no extra damage). I also think i got used to how Genji felt back in season one in terms of time you could stay in the melee without running out of shurikens. And it felt GREAT. And i separate the damage he made, from the ammo aspect when i say “it felt great”.
(I could go further even if it’s off topic, but i’d like the nano to not be working with blade like it’s the case with Hanzo’s Dragon, and instead buff the blade. Nano with blade in my humble opinion is no-brain, frustrating to play against and not fun to play with as Genji. Once again, that’s personnal and im not asking for anything. Just clarifying where i stand for. I don’t want a hyper buffed genji god hero i can play with on Sunday evening.)
Loved Genji but the demand to hit nothing but headshots while on controller is too much for my taste. I’d rather just play Tracer and focus on one clipping.
Genji is fun but labeling anything less than “You didn’t land the three shuriken, swiftstrike, and melee combo perfectly in rapid succession to burst through any heals mid team fight means complete skill issue” only adds onto the stress. You’re either a very good genji carrying the game or garbage doing nothing while banking on the nanoblade
The Devs said on Flat’s stream like a month ago that Genji is performing great and does not need buffs…and I agree.
He feels fine. I love having him on my team, I still get frustrated when playing against good Genjis.
He felt tangibly overtuned before his damage and ammo nerfs.
I’d be fine with them buffing his ammo but then they’d probs need to compensation nerf his ult or something.
I feel like whenever Genji is balanced, his mains call him bad. And whenever he’s obviously overtuned, they say he is balanced. I don’t understand it. If my main was in a solid place, not in threat of getting any nerfs, and not in desperate need of buffs, and still fun to play, I would be so happy, lol.
I think there’s a real issue with how Genji tends to feel overly punishing or unforgiving if you’re not able to land your shots or you fail to make headshots a priority. He’s flexible enough to fit into various gameplay styles, but he can feel a bit weak if you’re not playing him exactly like the game, or Blizzard wants you to. Or put it another way, if you’re aren’t aiming headshots on Kiriko, she can feel a bit weak.
Genji, in much the same way, has a similar problem; and I think when players try to adapt to him they run into this issue of feeling like they need to be RMBing and jumping around all the time. And if that works, it works, and maybe Overwatch, as a game, isn’t really communicating that isn’t the right way to play him.
One issue is that Dragonblade as an ultimate is still incredibly risky and still a… feast-or-famine type of ultimate that doesn’t really work without some kind of teamwork. Back OW1, the ultimate cost for Genji’s Dragonblade was dramatically boost to over 2k. In one instance, this was done to prevent farming tanks so that Genji wouldn’t heavily reliant on running his ultimate so much. There used to be arguments that this was the only way to play Genji and that Genji’s power balance was all tied up in his ultimate. It created a real big distortion of how Genji should be played.
Now, though, since he’s basically been reverted to his old ammo count, and his dragonblade is more expensive (and one of the most expensive ultimates in the Damage-role), maybe they should look into adjusting that. Right now, I think Dragonblade is probably a little weak - but could very easily end up overtuned. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to tune the ult cost down a little bit.
27x24 is 648 damage per reload; it’s not a really clean number. 27x27 is 729, still not super clean; but pretty high for total damage per clip. Sojourn and Soldier would be a little jealous of that. Ashe is the only one that really has higher than Genji, and much more substantial reload period, too.
28x24 isn’t really clean, either… I don’t know if raising his damage by one point would be that bad, either. But it would put him in a near OW1 launch state.
Literally any time that we have a decent Genji player who picks him? lol?
I could ask you the same question for most of the DPS heroes. It’s hard to find a scenario when you say that for lots of them outside of “They have a Pharah so we need a hitscan”. That doesn’t mean they’re underpowered. It’s just not very common to do that because there are 17 DPS heroes and many of them work in many situations and aren’t super comp situational like Tanks/Supports. I never go “Dang we could use a Tracer on this team” or “Dang we could use a Soldier on this team” but I still think both of those DPS are very strong and love having one on my team.
A better response would be that there are hardly any situations where I get a Genji on my team and go “Ugh why do we have a Genji”. Because he is a strong hero and when played and supported properly can dominate the lobby. So I enjoy having one. The end.
I’m…sorry you feel that way? Idk what to tell you?
He is tangibly fine, and the Devs said he is statistically strong and doesn’t need buffs.
They said if he does ever get changes in the future it will be something like nerfs to his ult with some buffs to his base kit. But I don’t know if they want to even do that and risk throwing off his current balanced state.
Idk I think too many Genji mains like to scape goat the passive as the entire reason he was too strong when the Devs only said it was contributing to it. And all that passive did was make him have more snowball potential, but he was only snowballing because he had such high damage in the first place. If they had removed the passive entirely from him but left his damage and ammo the same I would bet money he would have still been feeling way too strong to play vs.
Yes …and no? I assume you mean it doesn’t change his major breakpoints on combos? Which I get. But also I think people forget that one of the biggest “counters” to Genji is consistent healing while he’s diving on someone, and so any kind of DPS buff that allows him to do more damage through heals would benefit him a lot I think.
Idk, I guess we will have to agree to disagree, but I hope he ends up in a place where his mains are happy with him
Ehh it’s always the way. Mccree was an absolute must pick in OW1 for 3 straight years and his mains continued to call him F-tier because his ult wasn’t an instant 6k every fight.
