Here are 3 ways rein could go from horrible to mid, and its by buffing his ‘airstrike’. No, 1: increase dmg, this could be things like adding a burn effect like ashe dynamite. I mean, its fire after all, and fire burns. But most importantly, MAKE IT 2 TAP SQUISHIES! No. 2: Decrease cooldown. The cooldown for fire strike is kinda high, considering its reinhardt’s only ranged attack. If they dont buff the dmg, reduce its cooldown, because rein would need more range power. No. 3: Add more maximum fire strikes. Its currently at 2 right now, and maybe putting it at 3 or 4 would really help grandpa rein a lot. Just end every rein players’ suffering PLEAASSEE!!
Reinhardt is really good atm

Playing sombra and it really takes a lot of time to take down a 1400 hp barrier like a lot, let alone another 1k EHP worth of health. Rein is really overpowered in this regard. All he needs to do is hold right click. Try it.
Honest question, as someone who does not play Rein: how much mileage did you get out of Firestrike before this patch? From my outsider’s perspective it looks like a neat ability to have, but not a big deal because it looks pretty inconsistent to land on squishies, and tanks can take even pre-patch FS on the chin.
Basically, I’m wondering whether it’d really help Rein any to buff FS instead of base (non-barrier) survivability like white HP and armour, or whether you guys really would be better off with FS buffs like increased projectile speed or whatnot.
Firestrike is particularly crucial because of Reinhardt’s restricted range. Someone might only be 6m away but the only way to hit them is to lob a firestrike at what feels like nearly point blank range. That’s also the range where it’s liable to actually hit. In fact, I’d wager the lion’s share of meaningful firestrikes are hit from the 6-10m.
Landing two firestrikes in a row on the same target is unlikely, and having that target recieve no healing or damage mitigation for a 100-0 elimination was even rarer. A more realistic scenerio is that you’ve connected your hammer with a squishy and the firestrike finishes them off.
It’s how you build ultimate and secure kills cause of mobility creep. Trying to hit 3-4 swings on someone is rare.
Also the two firestrike break point was INSANELY important for shatter so if you lined them up in a shatter you could theoretically kill squishes at range. It didn’t actually happen cause there’s like 700+ abilities that will stop you from killing anything unless you shatter 5 and they’re all close range. But ya know, It theoretically mattered…
So I guess the obvious move is to buff FS to match its relative damage level pre-patch?
To be frank I don’t know how to make Rein viable at the higher levels of play without breaking him in the lower levels of play. The firestrike buff where it two shots again would be nice but I don’t know if that would actually make him feel good to play again. He’s a deceptively hard character to balance. And I’m against reworking him cause when he works he’s really enjoyable to play and I would hate to lose that experience.
What no hes not hes good in bronze but no where else
That’s kinda how I felt about Rein pre-S9, tbh, but now that everything’s all shaken up I don’t know where I stand.
Would shifting some of his barrier health into his actual HP/armour pool help? Would increase walking speed while holding down barrier help? Or would either (or both) of these have no real impact on his performance in M+?
Buff its damage to 125 so that if you combine it with Bap Window you can one-shot squishies again ![]()
Buffing FS wont help Rein in the current state of the game.
I would:
- Buff shield health
- Buff his speed while holding shield.
While I agree that firestrike could do with a small buff to 125damage to give back his 2-tap potential against squishies and help a bit with his ult regen, I don’t think it’s going to help much.
The main problem with Reinhardt is that he has a hard time getting close to the enemies to be an actual threat.
A lot of the heroes are highly mobile and/or can shoot safely from range away from Rein’s range of influence.
By the time Rein manages to get to them and get a swing or two, his hp and shield simply explode and he has no free out of jail card to get out.
I think he needs something to help with his mobility or perhaps more armor instead of hp to give him those extra few seconds to get an extra swing in.
Maybe reduce the movement speed penalty when holding shield, or give him a little temporary speed boost after using Charge similar way to Orisa when she uses her Javelin Spin and Ramattra in his nemesis Form.
I want them to give him a speed boost while swinging so bad but it would probably make him broken in all tiers
you know how mauga has dmg mitigation when he charges, well rein should have the same thing because rein make play, rein go boom.
funny to me that ashe dynamites burns more than it does explosive damage (also dynamites arent known in video games for burning people)
but the FIREstrike, that is a 100% fire projectile, doesnt burn at all
or an increase of atk speed when he lands a hit that increases with each hit ( with a cap ofc) so you are rewarded for being able to reach a target close quarter, and creating distance with a rein becomes mandatory (because atm, you can pretty much hugh him)
that wont really matter if everyone is running bastion reaper comps that absolutely tear him up, as long as there are characters that outrange him whilst doing high damage, he will never be viable again unless they gigabuff him to deal with it
