"BRONZE to GM challenges" are getting out of control

After years of playing and watching OW content, I’ve somehow got used to “Unranked to GM” streams/videos although I still think it’s not best for the game.

However I’ve noticed recently there’s more and more “BRONZE to GM” challenges…

If you can even call it a challenge at this point.

Necros, Just Steevo, Cyx (although Cyx is just straight up smurfing in bronze on stream for content), GaleAdelade, just to name a few.

The proof is there, on Twitch, on YT, quick search will do the trick. Yet Blizzard is doing absolutely nothing about it. How can you justify supporting streamers who straight up smurf for content.

Keep in mind this is no longer just about games they play while climbing. They had to throw games to get to bronze in the first place. Not only they’ve ruined countless games for other people, they also encourage smurfing and make money off of it.

Those are the same content creators that get rewarded by Blizzard by getting drops for their streams, alpha and beta invites, etc.

There is absolutely no excuse for Blizzard to ignore this. It’s straight up breaking ToS. Keep this thread up so maybe they will finally do something about it.

And to all of you lovely streamers who do those challenges…you’re pathetic.

If people watch it… Then people will do it. That’s all streamers care about. I wonder why people are streaming OW1 at all… Pretty low tier viewer draw right now if you think about it.

Please don’t bring pathetic down to these garbage bugs level.

(sry to all the garbage bugs i just dragged down to these streamers level.)

We’ve been complaining about this sorta thing for years. Unfortunately blizzard couldn’t care less so long as people are buying new accounts and they’re getting free advertising from the streamers :man_shrugging:t2:

Not a fan of smurfing but everybody tries to put food on the table and there ain’t much they can really do for new content for a month so I at least get it even if it isn’t content I’m personally interested in

Blizzard don’t care. It’s just money in their pocket. What incentive do they have to stop it?

Blizzard really shouldn’t have a double-standard here. These people are obviously breaking TOS, and their accounts should be banned accordingly.

If you are a GM player and you’re playing it Bronze, it means you either A. Traded accounts with someone or B. intentionally threw games to get down to bronze.

Both should get you banned.

Yeah theres nothing to “learn” about how a GM ultra destroys people from Bronze-Diamond. Like you cant use their “strats” generally because those involve being brutally better in many areas where we are not.

Mid Diamond and Up … yeah we can learn some stuff for sure. If they make it “educational” maybe from Plat onwards but crushing Silver , Gold and Bronze players is disgusting.

dafran, didn’t even try on a new account, just short of throwing, like straight up did bad to make a point and got diamond on first placement.

Literally have throw to go below that as a t500.

Blizzard will never punish their precious advertisers content creators.

The necros challenge was almost 2 years ago. Did he do another one recently?

Either way, you’re making this sound like a bigger issue than it is. Blizzard is ignoring this because the honest truth is that no one cares about Overwatch period right now, certainly not bronze and random high rank players doing bronze to gm streams. Keeping the competitive integrity of a rank where everything is inherently a mess is understandably low on the priority.

Why would Blizz ever put a stop to this? People buying alt accounts is the only thing generating money for OW these days

They will never do anything about this problem ever.

Even if they did, the only way to prevent something like this is to completely overhaul the SR system so people cannot abuse it and get into places they shouldn’t be. There are not many other systems that exist to prevent this though so I just doubt it’s ever going to be fixed.

I’m a bronze ranked player in OW1 and I very much detest high ranked players who throw games to get down into bronze, and then proceed to stomp bronze players to get to GM.

Bronze to GM isn’t a challenge at all. If a player belongs in GM, the “challenge” doesn’t really start until they get to Masters or higher. Everything below that is a waste of time, and mucks mucks up the SR of everyone they went through.

Simply having a bronze to GM stream at all should be instant grounds for a ban.

I don’t exactly mind B2GM runs by themselves as it does show that anybody can theoretically climb. It’s when dudes be moaning up and down that bronzes aren’t playing like GMs that not a fan of. You knew, or at least should’ve known, what you were getting yourself into playing at those ranks.

My issue with it all just proves Blizzard puts zero effort into maintaining the game. Many of these people don’t even try to hide it. “Throw to Bronze” groups were pretty much the only thing in LFG for a while before LFG just died all together. Literally in the title of the group that they planned to throw as a group and some how Blizzard missed it.

Seriously about the only thing that seems to get enforced is “hate speech” reports. Those normally get action within a day, anything else is mostly ignored till the auto ban systems kick in after a few hundred reports.

They won’t. Time and time again disregard for common folk in favor of influencers was demonstrated.

Any publicity is good publicity, as it attracts other players.

Were you born yesterday? ToS are for regular folk. Streamers and pros have their own ToS, which are “as long as you bring more profit, than trouble, we will look other way”.

If they wanted to verse Bronze players, they should have done the format Jayne and Jay3 did.

Just make a custom game and invite Bronze-level followers from their Discord community.

  1. The Bronze players want to participate.
  2. It’s viewer engagement. And…
  3. It doesn’t ruin competitive games.

This can be said about all their games, really.

The moment a game isnt an instant e-sports hit, they get dropped off instantly if they are a newer game (HotS) or thrown into a slow death by trying to monetize everything.

It’s the “ethical” way to smurf.
